| ->> The store will update later today with purchase options. They always get the ads up before the store system. It'll hopefully be up around noon or so. |

| ->> Also, it looks like Thunderbolt is using the same port as Mini Display Port, so existing adapters will still be usable. I wonder if existing computers with Display Ports will be able to use Thunderbolt drives? |

| ->> Thanks. I was just concerned about the integrated graphics card... I read that FCP does not support it. I'm currently using the 15" 2.2Ghz Macbook Pro (2007). It will take some getting used to the smaller screen size, but I do have an external 20" cinema display. |

| ->> The new models are the current ones so they're prices are what they are listed at. You can got to an Apple Store and ask if they have the EOL (End of Life) MBPs and they may be able to get you a deal on the previous generation model. |

->> Mike:
I have an SSD in my 2010 MBP and it is scary fast. Start up and shut down are almost instantaneous - so I'm a big fan. I went with the Apple BTO option - but if cost is a concern - installing a third party drive will save you a few hundred bucks. |

->> jock-
good to know. i use external drives for everything anyway, so i'm not concerned about having mad storage space on the machine. i want it to be speedy, with good battery life. can you comment on the speed of applications? would photoshop perform better with a SSD than it does with a spinner, or are those things totally unrelated? |

->> @ Mike here is a demo from OWC showing some speed test. Very interesting as i have considered the upgrade myself.

I have read that the speed of the apps actual running do not show much improvement. I was hoping for a dramatic increase for lightroom but the reports are not indicating it is worth the price at the moment. I will wait for the SSD's to come down in price b4 making the upgrade. |

->> My macbook pro 13" with the i7 should be here today. I look forward to seeing how it matches up against my 3.5 year old dell refurb with a older quad core, 1gb video card and 8gb ram. If it can compete with it or be reasonably close, I'll be tickled. I already know it will be a lot more portable.
This is my first mac since a Mac Plus a few years back. |

->> The new machines look great. Can't wait for Thunderbolt compatible accessories to come out.
Do any of the early adopters know if the hard drive upgrade option is the Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive? I know that some of the 2010 MBP shipped with it.
There have been a number of complaints about the drive. Besides those in the article listed below, I have read that it is difficult to update the firmware, the update does not completely solve the problem, and it is difficult to reformat the drive.

| ->> I'm using a Seagate Momentus XT on an older Mac... It picks the oddest times to spin down, then spins right back up. Quite peculiar, especially for a Seagate. It is faster to start the things you use often, and I haven't experienced any crashes at this point. |
