Take a look at the update link in the story...the city may be on the hook for $70M!

->> Wow, that sounds pretty unbelievable... literally. It reads like a PR piece for the tea party. If the allegations made are true than they are incredibly outrageous but I'd be curious to hear what really happened. I'm guessing she was probably wronged but I'm also guessing there was a LOT more to the story than what was reported as well as a lot that was reported yet simply didn't happen.

Another link that spells out a slightly different story:

->> This whole story reeks of exaggeration on both sides. She just happened to be carrying a rifle. She just happened to be carrying $13,000 IN CASH to pay her son's tuition? WTF? Who is stupid enough to carry around that much in cash? I'm not excusing the alleged behavior of the law enforcement officers, but hell, I would have been suspicious, too.

->> holy mackeral. that's why you read both sides. the first one (which looks to have been written by the lawyers representing her) leaves out the information she had an assault rifle AND 500 rounds of ammunition. it also failed to mention she had been warned to stay away from the area. of course, the real great part of the story is the part where the city attorney "forgot" to respond to the libel suit filed in federal court and because of that there is a real chance the town being sued is now on the hook for $70 million unless the court allows the bungle by the city attorney. yikes.

You don't end up on a watch list and told not to be around the area for an officer wanting to drive your sports car; anyone with half a brain would not carry that much cash and an arsenal in their trunk to go take photos of a place they were told to stay away from. Sounds like a set up for news coverage while lying, seems her story changes a bit and makes no sense. Though I'm sure some law enforcement overstepped their bounds as well - but who in their right mind would not be suspicious at this?

->> Regardless of whatever this woman did or didn't do, if the cops who had her in custody did what she alleges they did, then that's the issue. If she really was innocent, then she was abused by bully cops who wanted to throw their weight around and dish out punishment themselves. If she really was a terrorist, then the cops would have ruined a case against her by their actions. If what she alleges is true, then they were sloppy with her treatment and sloppy with the evidence. No matter if she is left-wing, right-wing, Martian, Vegan, or has Bieber Fever, it seems like yet another case where a cop says "Terrorism" and suddenly all the rules go out the window.

Do you really want this woman arrested for something you have the right to do as a professional photographer?

->> i agree. don't look at the players, look at the response and examine the law. i've read the first link to the lawyer blog and a bunch of links telling the other side of the story. they all say charges were dropped, and nothing was discussed that seems like outrageous behavior on the part of the woman. the rifle thing? sounds like nobody disputes that she was coming from the range and it was unloaded and locked. who knows...maybe she's wacko. that said, there is not legislation prohibiting wackos driving about the countryside taking pictures. if we lock up all those exhibiting wacko-like behavior, half the public would be incarcerated. if she was simply looking for a fight- as some people do- she struck gold.
