->> hi all,
some of you may have seen the first two parts of my series on flash basics in the newsletters... aimed specifically at photogs new to flash. i was two years into my career working as a photographer before i began to teach myself flash photography and regularly get questions on the basics. i cringe at some of the stuff i didn't know but should have.
hence my idea to do the series.
part 1/4 is here http://www.sportsshooter.com/news/2439
part 2/4 is here http://www.sportsshooter.com/news/2482
but the question.. or questions are;
- first up, are you getting anything out of it ? have you got any feedback ? love it ? hate it ? am i missing something ?
- second, i aim to cover in part 3 the basics of off-camera flash using an off-camera cord. part 4 is going to give a taster into advanced flash photography (light modifiers, etc.) but is there anything you'd really like to see in the next two parts ?
this series is aimed at you, if you haven't yet got the hang of using your speedlight flash. so please let me know what you'd like me to include to help me make the rest of the series as relevant and helpful as possible.
cheers, james |

->> Off camera flash would be great for a next post, but how about one on bouncing the flash while on camera first.
If I ever have a flash on camera, it is never pointed directly at the subject unless it's a tiny 1/128 power flick for fill. Using it as a main light on camera pointed directly at the subjects always gives that flat, deer in headlights look.
I lot of people take a while to learn to point the flash at the ceiling or a wall to bounce it. That might be a better route to go before you tackle off camera stuff.
Besides that, I think its a good series. Any help for people new to flash is always helpful. |
