->> The new Sandy Bridge chipset and iCore gen 2 processors will cause a refresh for just about every manufacturer out there. I'm sure the Mac's will be there right with the others.
Only thing that might delay any new product will be Intel's recall of the new chipsets. They identified a flaw in the product causing a recall of all shipped products and a fabrication of new parts. they have stated in press releases that it could be as late as April before they have enough parts back in the channel.
IMHO, while Apple may very well be one of the earlier announced products they will be one of the latter to ship. They have little buying power compared to Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. |

| ->> Whatever their buying power and market share is or is not, Apple has a LOT of influence with Intel and usually gets what they want before everyone else. |

| ->> Al, I think that has to do with Apple's iPhone and iPad moreso than Apple's computers. Partnering with Intel allows them an inside track on Phone design. Phones are significant market for any CPU manufacturer. Working with whomever is writing the OS is substantial advantages because as battery life and responsiveness improve so does the perception of the CPU manufacturer. |

->> IF the rumors are right and the announce date is this week then the computers will ship soon. Apple rarely makes and announcement without a ship date and usually it is "available now at the Apple Store."
Only rarely do they say "will ship in a couple weeks." The iPhone being the main exception.
Unlike other makers, Apple works on something in private and doesn't show it until it is ready. They don't do things like show a mockup at a big electronics show and then back off on it. Like HP did with their tablet, they made a big deal about developing it, worked on it for a long time and then when the iPad came out they simply said "we're not going to make our tablet" and now it's back on, nearly 2 years after it was announced.
However, the date of the 24th is a little odd because Apple tends to do announcements on Tuesdays. |
