| ->> I was looking into buying the PocketWizard N90M3-P Pre-Trigger Motor Cord today and found the Fotodiox. I am having a hard time justifying dropping $90+ for a Nikon 10-pin connector and Miniphone but can swing $30 for the Fotodiox. Has anyone used the Fotodiox for a remote camera? |

->> The connectors look like the cheap plastic ones.
Personally I'd avoid them.
But if you don't have the $$$ to spend on the real deal, I guess you can take a chance on them. Hope they work for you and last a long while. |

->> If you need a remote cord made just the way you want it, give Bill Miller a call. He has made remote cords for me in the past. Well made and a great price.

->> I can not say enough good things about FlashZebra and their customer service. When my cord arrived in the mail yesterday I was having problems firing the remote camera. After several minutes trying to figure out what was wrong I found a short in the cable about 4 inches from the 10-pin cable. I immediately contacted Zon at FlashZebra and he expressed mailed a replacement cable that should be in my mail box on Friday (2 days).
From all the positive reviews and the prompt customer service from FlashZebra I am sure my replacement cord is going to work great. |

| ->> I guess I'll be the lone dissenter. The customer service is great, but every cable I've purchased has needed replacement. I'd rather spend more on the front end, and I prefer to lack familiarity with any manufacturer's customer service dept. |

| ->> I received the Fotodiox cable for the D3s yesterday. Build quality appears to be decent. It is actually two cables, one locking 10 pin collar to a submini 2.5mm plug, and a second cable with the pre-focus assembly and a 3.5mm plug to attach to the pocketwizard. Focus and shutter actuation work perfectly. One question for you D3s users (I'm new to the dark side); when I connect the cable the rear LCD doesn't operate; is this a function of the D3s conserving battery power? |

->> I have never used the cable from Fotodiox but have used one from Flashzebra and it shorted out immediatly and at the worst possibile time
The cable would work when I set it up and tested it but once I place it in the net or behind the backboard and I moved it or it got moved by getting hit or the backboard moving during a slam all was lost.
I would not buy an off brand homemade cable. You can have all the backups you want but this is one part that you don't know that it is broken, and you are not getting images, until it is way too late.
My opinion spend the money and have no worries or at least much less. The PW Cable I now have is built MUCH better, so i don't expect any problems.
We spend 5K on bodies, many thousand on lenses, hundreds on clamps, hundreds on PW... in all reality what is an additional $50-$75 for quality.

->> Anyone else ever use Michael Bass for cords, custom, and one-of stuff? I have one of his Nikon pre-release cords that's really well built.
His order method is a bit clunky, but service and communication are great.

->> Ed it is a function of the 'stay awake' feature. The cable is acting like the shutter release is being depressed 1/2 way, thus no rear LCD. This keeps the camera ready to fire the whole time the cable is connected.
If you mount your remotes and then need to be able to access the menus or camera functions to make changes look for a cable that has a switch that lets you flip in and out of the 'awake' mode.
Slightly OT but does anyone know of a source for JUST the 10 pin Nikon plug for home brewing special needs items? |
