What passes for a column in NJ these days...

->> If you hadn't heard, news staff at 3 Gannett NJ papers (HNT, C-N, and DR) had to reapply for their jobs in January, with the fun bit of that being staffing levels shrinking from 99 to 53 during the reapplication process.
That's a pretty sad thing, and some good folks (including names many will know from this board) did not make the cut.
But here's the sad thing. I think they may be better off for it, rather than have themselves associated with whatever this is that ran yesterday in the HomeCourierTribuneNews.com clustermuck of a newswebsite.

I've been working in professional communications in one capacity or another since 1997 and quite honestly, I do not think I have ever seen anything so umm...amazing...make it to press in any newspaper or magazine in all that time.
Can anyone explain this to me? Am I missing something? Is this what news columns have become in the past five years since I've wandered away from working for papers? Can any far-flung current or former Gannetteers help shed some light on this? Is it me? Am I missing something? |
