->> I am looking to purchase up to 10 Point & Shoot cameras for students in an AFTERS Class I teach. The kids range from Grade 4 through 8. I have a source for the money, but would like some recommendatoins on what cameras to purchase. I'm looking at spending around $300 to $350 each.
Our high school is using Canon Powershots for their multimedia classes
Thanks in advance for your recommendations. |

->> How will the cameras be used? What will they be taking pictures of? What kind of instruction will they have prior to using them? What do you aim to teach them with the cameras?
Just some quick questions in deciding. Some are easier to use than others but limited in function. Some are more prone to breaking. Is it possible to buy lower-end, easier cameras for the younger children and then have them advance to ones with more functions? |

->> Wesley... thanks for the input. Actually, I've been teaching these kids for the past four years. I get a lot of repeat customers because they have a lot of fun shooting and then working with Photoshop in the school's computer labs. The problem isn't what I'm teaching them, the problem is I've been using my own equipment and I'm tired of that. I'm thinking Canon Powershot with enough sophistication to actually teach them technique to get better results. You would be amazed at how adept these kids are before they even hit my class. If they are not shooting images with their Cell phones, they are using Mom and Pop's P&S. They pick up the elements of Photoshop so fast it is scary.
So, I'm still looking for recommendations for P&S cameras at a price point of $300. Anyone out there with a recommendation. Thanks |

->> What about a very basic SLR kit. You could possible call KEH in Atlanta and see if they could do 10 basic rebel kits for $300 a piece. I'm not saying there going to give you D300's or something. But maybe some decent shape, old-model Rebels.
Maybe even look for some grants for more funding. Or go out on a limb and contact Nikon & Canon & see if they would be willing to help out. You never know.
When I was in school at UGA, Canon donated about $50,000 worth of gear for our photojournalism department. Go figure, when it came time for me to gear up, what brand do you think I chose. Hello white lenses.
Just a thought. |

| ->> Not a bad thought Richard. I'll do that and let you guys know what happens. Most of my funding comes from ChelanMan proceeds, a triathlon here in Chelan where the orgnizer gives back to the community for arts and culture for kids. |
