->> The Paley Center guy's facial expressions and mannerisms remind me of Grandpa Munster.
Cool find though. Sounds like the NFL is trying to stake claim to it.
Not that the NFL wouldn't be the best place for this tape to wind up, but their assumption that it "automatically" belongs to them bothers me. Why weren't they concerned enough to keep a copy then? |

| ->> The NFL offered the guy 30K for the tape. Yea Right. Maybe back in 1967, but not now. Talk about low-balling... |

->> I think the NFL's claim will be along the lines of individuals could made a copy for their own viewing pleasure - but at the point that you want to make and sell copies of the tape, or otherwise have public displays that's where they have a problem. Everyone that wants to see it may not like that, but isn't that one of the core principles of copyright - that the holder gets to choose how and when their material is displayed?
So the owner's ability to capitalize upon the ownership - beyond the value of the tape itself to a collector is probably limited. Given what sports memorabilia sells for, I imagine the guy could get a lot more than $30,000 from a private collector - at which point it may never be seen.
For the general public to be able to view this footage, I presume some sort of deal needs to be struck with the NFL. |

->> Tom that is so cool...I was 6 years old and remember very faintly my Dad watching these guys on TV with something on their heads running around trying to get the guy with the funny looking ball.
I would love to see the that game now.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane Tom. |

Nick, I hope we get to see this footage soon -- I'm kind of a nostalgia freak myself. |

| ->> It would be surprising if the public sees this film for several years...there's not much commercial value for a bootlegged t.v. Show, and all the values gone if it gets leaked to the public domain. This seems like it will be a hybrid between Sony v universal & MLK v CBS, with a sprinkling of the various Zapruder lawsuits...ultimately, I'd imagine you'll see it move to a private collection like Olberman or McFarland, followed by an agreement with NFL films who will clear up broadcast rights with the network. |
