->> I'm trying to find out if there's a known battery draining issue associated with the 5d2. One of my bodies seems to drain batteries a lot faster than the other.
Thanks |

->> Nothing that I've heard. I've been using 5d2 bodies since Dec 08 and still get excellent battery life out of them.
I normally charge batteries every week, but last week pushed to see how far I could go and got 1200 frames out of one battery before I pulled it. It still showed about 20% left at that point.

->> Could be a lens issue. Any chance one of your bodies has a stabilized lens (like the kit 24-105) on it, with the stabilizer turned on?

->> I mostly use a 16-35 II on the 5d and a 70-200 on the 7d. Just today I put a fully charged new batt on the 5d and left it turned off. Just checked it 3 hours later and the battery is down one bar ! I may have to send this body to CPS.

->> IS on a bigger lens like the 300IS will drain the batteries much much quicker. With a non-IS 28-200mm, I can get 3000 photos per battery without a problem. :D

->> When ascertaining battery life, you have to check things like lcd review time, whether the noise reduction functions are on, chimping habits, and as Michael said, whether the lens IS is on. Plus, when was the last time you "refreshed" the battery, that is, letting the charger take it down to zero power and then recharging. This needs to be done every month or so. Also, charging the battery and then letting it sit for several days in your camera bag also is not good. Batteries loose 2 to 3% power per day just sitting.

->> Sent it to CPS after consulting with a tech there. Possibly some kind of short in the body which is under warranty until next month.
