Scanner recommendations

->> trying to help out a friend with a new scanner purchase and don't know about what is current or any good. He is looking to scan mostly prints, but some negatives and is looking in the $400-500 range. Any recommendations?

->> thanks Jon. I remember looking at Epsons with my husband before we bought our Nikon years ago and I was going to recommend Epson. Glad they are still up there.

->> Sometimes you can find a nikon coolscan 1v for around that money . It would be better then the epson . David

->> David-he has a lot of prints to scan as well as negs/slides so the Nikon wouldn't work.
