->> The last four cards Iv'e put in my reader wouldn't mount in Photomechanic. Then when using a usb reader I get the "do you want to format"pop up on my Mac Book Pro. Shooting with D3 and SanDisc cards. The Lexar Reader just flashes continually while the card is in it.
Cards come from 2 different D3z and a D700. Thanks in advance. |

->> Brian --- I have had a problem for a while with FW800 readers. Sometimes they mount. Sometimes they don't.
I have both Lexar and SanDisk 800 readers and they both have this problem.
Several FW800 external hard drives that I have are no problem.
It has been a mystery that I and our IT dept. have no idea what is the cause.
I am down to my last FW400 card reader... |

->> On the same boat as Bert.
I burned through a Sandisk reader, and opted for a Lexar Firewire 800. After a couple months it screwed up two memory cards on deadline - I lost basically all my pictures from anything shot wide. A couple days later, same thing happen, different cards, one a brand new Sandisk.
Lexar replaced the reader for free, but wouldn't confirm the problem. I still feel weary about using it, despite no more errors, and find myself using crappy USB 2.0 readers to be safe. |

| ->> Problems with my FW800 card readers were resolved by replacing the cable from the reader to the machine. The connectors are "heavy" and can cause the contact to be sporadic. Try a new cable and see if that resolves. I hope it does. |

->> Nope ... first thing I tried. Went through several FW cables, a couple very expensive ones.
Same result. |

| ->> I've had problems with Lexar and Sandisk FW800 readers myself... On a friends recommendation I got a couple Belkin FW800 readers and haven't had any problems with them that unplugging it then plugging it back in haven't solved.... watch them start chewing up my cards now... :( |

| ->> I got so sick of my Lexar FW800 locking cards up I just gave it away. Poor guy that took it is probably in for the same fate. My Sandisk FW800 reader hasnt ever given me an issue. Knock on wood! Funny enough they have stopped selling some of the FW800 readers. |

->> I've yet to have any of the problems with my reader that people on here are talking about, but I only have one reader and would have revert back to USB 2.0 if my current one failed and that's not something I want to do.
For those of you with problems, what readers have you switched too? I'd like to get a backup in case sh*t hits the fan with my Lexar reader. |

->> I too have had a similar problem but not using PM to tarnsfer. I use Breezebrowser pro downloader, but still have this issue, not seeing any images on the card. This might tell us it is not software related to PM, but actually hardware.
I usually remove the card a few times and then OK or reboot the PC. Never lost anything but an inconvienience for sure.
Looking to see what other readers people use that do not have this issue.

->> I have recently purchased three of these readers from Synchrotech that you can find at the following link.
http://www.synchrotech.com/products/card-rw_31_firewire_800_1394b_compactfl...
I can’t vouch for the performance of mine yet but they come highly recommended from someone I do trust and have worked for doing cheer events Brian I think you know who I’m talking about. He normally has six of these stage side that we use to DL thousands of files per event with few to very few issues.
These performances last about 2.5 minutes with breaks in between maybe lasting half of that. I believe he said we shot and uploaded upwards of 250k photos in two days using mostly these readers. There may have been a failure but I was unaware of it. None of the stations I used last season failed.
I will be using mine for some upcoming shows (not nearly as big as above) in the next few months and I will report back at that time if anyone is interested regarding there performance. |

->> Jeff,
Those readers look identical to Delkin's and Hoodman's readers, which use the same controller as Lexar and SanDisk in their FW800 readers.

On my primary workstation I have three Lexar readers daisy-chained and stacked and a Delkin reader attached to a second port. I occasionally use all four at once although increasingly some of my "take" is now on SD cards.
I have occasionally had lock ups but generally speaking the readers have worked well for the past two-and-a-half years. The biggest issue is the lack of decent FW800 support on a PC. Despite several different FW800 cards, I've never been able to achieve higher than FW400 speeds in practical use.

| ->> I apologize for the simplicity of this answer, but have you just tried pushing the cards into the Lexar reader really hard? I own one and I've had a lot of the issues that other people have had on the thread, every time (besides one bad card) it was simply an issue of the card not being fully inserted into the card reader. There is a point where the little light will flash but the card doesn't mount. |

| ->> I've had the same problem a couple of times where the blue light just keeps flashing when the card is in the card reader, but the card won't mount. Last time I ejected the card out of the reader and that ended up corrupting the card. Does anyone have any tricks to try to get the card to mount with out ejecting it? I've already tried pushing it into the reader farther and that didn't seem to do anything. |

->> Justin, I've had this issue with my Lexar reader and my d700. Take the card out of the camera (mind you I can see the images on the camera) walk over to the WinXP computer, pop it in and there's nothing there. I also shoot a MKIII for work and I don't think I've had it with that camera, just the d700 (even with the d700 its only been a really rare issue) When putting in the computer I've had it not read at all to the computer telling me the card is not formatted and needs to be before being read.
I've not had any of the issues others have with the reader. Its worked fine for years, been happy with it. Except for this one issue of not reading on the rare occasion. Sounds stupid, but I usually take the card out, blow inside the pin holes, put the card back into the camera, browse thru a few images on the camera, then try to put it back into the card reader. More often than not that seems to work. |
