->> Forgive me if this has already been posted and I missed it. It appears itunes user accounts have been sold online. The following article can explain things better than I can. It sounds like they suggest changing your password and removing stored credit card info.

->> iTunes security hasn't been breached... People are just phishing for passwords and having success.
Don't give people your passwords.
Move along. |

->> My account was hacked right after Christmas. Over 3 different transactions, they bought about $90 worth of kids games and apps and junk. Apple was very fair in restoring the money to my account.
I also changed ALL MY ONLINE PASSWORDS after this happened.
They were really nice and very professional:
"Therefore, I would first like to suggest that you speak with household members that may have had access to your iTunes Store account, to ensure no misunderstandings have occurred in regards to the use of the account and the purchase(s) you are seeing. I ask this because I see these purchases were made on a device such as an authorized device like has been used on your account previously."
"If you are unable to determine the source of these charges and find that they are fraudulent, I would strongly recommend you change your account password and security question immediately. Changing the password will help to prevent anyone else from using your iTunes Store account to place orders without your knowledge. To increase the security of your account, choose a password that has at least eight digits and includes both letters and numbers. You can change your password using this website:
http://iforgot.apple.com
Please reply to this email to let me know if you determine that this was an unauthorized purchase, or if it turns out to be an accidental purchase. Please keep in touch, as I want to ensure this issue gets resolved for you."

->> Doing a search for iTunes hacking will show that a Chinese website, Taobao, was offering iTunes accounts with passwords for almost nothing. Several thousand accounts were hacked and made available to purchasers with the caveat that they should be used within 24 hours.
I was charged $30 for game apps, leaving me with 85 cents in the account according to the receipt I received. I sent an email to the iTunes people (no phone contacts for the iStore) and my account was credited for the purchases I did not make. I subsequently reset my password.
I only use the iTunes cards and have no credit card or PayPal information stored on my iTunes account. You can read accounts from people who had their PayPal accounts charged for thousands of dollars using the information available on their iTunes account. Evidently there is a battle brewing between Apple and PayPal about who is responsible for correcting these large scale fraudulent charges.
The key here is to use only the iTunes cards for purchases and keep that to a minimum. If you have a credit card or PayPal information stored on your iTunes account, delete that information ASAP. If you are hit with fraudulent charges, tell iTunes immediately and change your password. iTunes may temporarily freeze your account, but they do provide procedures for reactivating the account. |

->> http://www.wkbn.com/content/news/local/story/Fake-iTunes-Bills-Hit-E-mails/...
The receipts for lots of $$ are a scam to get your passwords... Don't click the links in them...
The key here is to check your itunes account from inside your itunes account, not through the provided links. When you click on the links in the e-mail, it takes you not to the itunes store but to a fake store. Then you enter your login information. Then the bad guys use your login information to make purchases, often of products they've created.
It's not hacking, it's phishing. That's where you convince people to let you in. |

->> No, its not plishing, at least not in my case. I know that is a common way to get account information, but I had not used my iTunes account in four months and I did not click on any links before getting a receipt for purchases I did not make.
I know Apple would like to believe that the user made the mistake of clicking on a fake store link because that takes the heat off off Apple. The reality is that somehow someone got access to account passwords and then sold them.
Regardless, the bottom line here is don't click on any link supposedly provided by Apple in an email, guard your account information carefully, don't use a credit card or PayPal with your account, and take immediate action to correct any unauthorized purchases. |
