Can my phone's internet connection be used by my WFT-E5A?

->> Can the internet connection of the BlackBerry in my pocket be used by my 7D's WFT-E5A? Why or why not? Would this require turning my BB into a hotspot of some kind? Is this even possible? If so, how?
Seems to me like this would be a wicked-fast way to move files to my newspaper's office in breaking-news situations where there's no guarantee of a hotspot or wired internet, without the need to put the camera down in order to pick up a laptop or iPad that might be accessing the internet via the same kind of cell phone signal as my smartphone.
All of my research seems to suggest I need an intermediary device like an iPad or something, and that seems like an extraneous step. Someone please educate me. |

->> I don't own the 7D, but I just read a bit. It says it will transmit over a Wi-fi and doesn't really seem to indicate you need anything else. I guess the FTP/HTTP software are internal.
Now, the Blackberry issue...I am not sure there. I know there is a whole tether thing going on that is not wi-fi, but you can connect via bluetooth. So, for a BBerry, probably not.
Now, for a Droid or Palm Pre, ones that act as a mobile hotpot, you can probably pull this off. Not sure your carrier, but I just dumped my BBerry for a Palm Pre. It is a decent little phone and I bought it used off Ebay for $90. I basically bought it because it is a smart phone AND thru Verizon the mobile hotspot function is free. You pay another $20/mth for the Droid.
I am sure there are other perspectives on this as well... |

->> Google "blackberry (phone model) wifi tethering", replacing the obvious.
If your phone supports it wifi tethering there are often options through your phone service provider, or with many phones you can set it up yourself. You still have to pay for the bandwidth you consume with it if you aren't on an unlimited data plan. |

->> You need to see which apps are available for your Blackberry to see if you can do this.
It is possible with the iPhone and some Droid phones because of apps written for them, not native to the phone.
This is to send images into the phone and then work on or send out, not as a direct link to the Internet and sending photos to a server at the office. |
