| ->> Anybody loaded up 10.6.6 yet to see if this is really true? I've been using an old copy of Lightroom 2.4, and that is cheaper than the upgrade to 3. |

->> Cheap.
FYI: This is for a new license, not an upgrade. It's even less expense than an upgrade.
The Mac Store FAQ says: "...may be used on any Macs that you own or control for your personal use" |

->> Brian,
The deal is through Apple's new App Store. You have to download 10.6.6 through software updates to install the app store. Then just search for Aperture. |

->> If you update mid-way through Obama administration :) you're in good shape. The App Store appears as an option under your Apple menu. Shopping is easy and prices, at least on the apps I'd consider, are great.
I'm a Lightroom fan, but $79 for Aperture is excellent. $20 for Pages? Makes it real easy to choose as an option over Word (FYI, Pages will open Word docs and save in Word format).
The App Store has lots of potential.

->> Is this the full version, residing on my HD? Not some cut-down, web-based intro? I've got Aperture 2 and nearly upgraded for full price...

->> I never used Aperture. Can someone please explain why it is better than Lightroom or Photoshop, or what you use it for. Does it open RAW?
will it work on 10.5.8? |

->> Deb,
I am a JPEG shooter and I use Aperture for archiving primarily, although it is a very good tool for image editing, sorting, quick video editing and building books.
I like Photo Mechanic to Photoshop primarily ... but Aperture has a number of niche tools that make it worthwhile for me.
For RAW ... no idea, I haven't shot RAW in years. |

->> HI Debra
I use both mainly because lightroom now does a better job with high iso Leica M9 files. Aperture for me is easier to use much more intuitive. Lightroon and photoshop have the same processing of raw files aperure gives a different look worth having. |

| ->> Be forewarned that is only my 2 cents..... I've been using Aperture since its birth for 90% of my work. About a year and a half ago, I started to use Capture One Pro for any high end, studio type shoots because the RAW files that were processed through it looked a bit better. Here recently, I am starting to not like how the images that are processed through Aperture 3 look. Maybe its just me, but the convenience of Aperture is starting to take a back seat to the quality of what it produces. I just wish Capture One Pro had the same organizational and archiving tools that Aperture does. Then there would be no question which one I would use. |

->> I have been trying really hard to use my new copy of Aperture purchased through the App Store for the bargain price. I use the word "trying" because whilst the cost is low and many of my colleagues swear by it I just don't like the files that I am producing with it. Time after time I have used Aperture and Adobe Camera RAW on the same file and every single time the ACR RAW conversion has the edge.
I want to like Aperture. I want to say "well done" to Apple for introducing such a high end product at such a good price but it just isn't doing it for me. I have just had a lengthy phone conversation with a colleague who loves Aperture and he admitted that he wouldn't use it without several plug-ins such as Viveza. Suddenly the bargain is less of a bargain.
I will persevere - after all, it took the best part of a year to learn to use ACR and it feels as if Photo Mechanic has been part of my working life forever! |

| ->> Jason and Neil ... I have been having the same observations though I tend to think it may be that I am not as familiar with A3 as I am LR and C1 (I wasn't very impressed with C1 in the beginning either) ... then I remember guys like Joe McNally, Chase Jarvis and Bill Frakes are producing some extremely excellent work using A3 ... it must have the potential to do better than I can currently muster ... kinda think I need a bit more training/learning on the matter before I make a decision ... |

->> Hey, Debra.
Everyone has an opinion and mine is that I am very satisfied with the way Aperture handles raw images. I like to think that I am as critical about color as the next person. But viewing color is subjective and a lot depends on monitor type, room lighting, etc. I've been a user since version 1 and with this latest version I find that I rarely open PS any more as I can do almost everything within the application. |
