I have a Nook and an Iphone and I would like to download a few shows to have while I'm traveling.
I'm looking for an alternative to iTunes.
thanks,

Free - don't know where to download, but as PJ mentioned, Hulu is "the" place to watch online.
Otherwise - iTunes |

->> iTunes
I have a few movies on my iPhone and iPad, works great.
And when you can, Netflix streaming also works well for both. |

| ->> You can compress movies yourself if you have the DVD's or non-protected media files; I can post more info in it later if you're interested. |

Especially good for Mark Rebilas because they have EVERY episode EVER of Family Guy.
Not that I have ever used it, but I hear that as long as you don't agree to download the garbage they try to get you to use and just play the videos, this is a wonderful resource. I mean, this is what I have heard... ;-) |

->> I have a ton of movies on DVD - I guess I could rip a few and convert them to MP4s. I'm on a PC, so do you know of any good freeware DVD rippers? If not what is a good paid one?
thanks,

->> I would also love to hear about a good tool for ripping DVDs on a PC. I've tried a couple in the past and they didn't seem to work very well. Very clumsy interface and not worth the hassle in the end.
It looks like there is a Handbrake download for Windows. anyone ever use it? |

->> Yes, I've used the Windows version of Handbrake to rip DVD's for my ipod Touch though it's been a while. It was pretty straight foward and there's also a fair amount of help on the web since it's widely used.
I've also had success with AnyDVD which isn't free but works like a charm. |

->> For you Windows users, you're gonna want AnyDVD:
http://www.slysoft.com/en/
This application runs in the system tray and disables CSS (copy protection used on DVDs) on the fly. That way, your system - as well as any other program - sees the DVD in your drive as being non-protected.
You'll also want AVS Video Converter:
http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Converter.aspx
This will take the contents of the DVD and reformat them to fit your portable media.
[disclaimer: I provide this information to you so you can create backups of DVDs you already own, of course] |

| ->> Handbrake has a PC client as well. I used it to back up my 150-odd DVDs to a media server about six months ago, a two week process that was well worth it. |
