->> I find it sad and awesome at the same time. Sad because of how much of her life was devoted to it with no recognition whatsoever, even to the point of having to lose it all because she couldn't afford the storage. But also incredibly happy because of it finding the right person to realize what he had. So many people today post and share most every shot they take. She never had that ability. All she had was a camera, an interest and an eye.
Unfortunately, what we'll get to see isn't from her edited choices. We won't get to see which ones were her favorites. I'm not sure if it's the pictures that I'm more interested in, or the story. I hesitate to compare it to Henri Cartier-Bresson had he never published a photo or spoke about photography, but I do want to know more about Vivian Maier.
(Apologies for typo in original subject). |

->> I'm intrigued by the question brought up near the end of the piece about whether she would want her work shared after her death, if she didn't seek to do it during her life.
Selfishly I am very glad someone is doing it. It looked like there was some amazing work that we will all be better off having seen.
It makes me think of Emily Dickinson and how, like Maier, she worked obsessively without sharing or publishing much of her work...and certainly neither received the praise they deserved during their lifetime.
Fear of rejection or lack of confidence in one's abilities is often the reason people do not share their work. It's sad to think that someone with as much talent as Maier, might not have recognized the quality and beauty of her own work.
However it makes me happy to think about how much the act of photographing must have pleased Maier. |

->> Great story, and incredible work for sure. I spotted this link for a 6-minute slideshow of her images while I was watching the original story.
