->> The credit on #14 is "Magnum PR." My guess is that it's a set-up shot.

->> While I respect SI immensely, I don't always agree with them. I rated them as WOW and YAWN categories.
WOW - 1, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11, 12, 14, 16, 21, 22, 25, 30, 33, 37, 38, 42, 43, 44, 45
YAWN - 10, 15, 17, 18, 20, 34, 35, 39, 47, 49
The remaining images were good, but not fantastic.
While most of the YAWN shots were good, in my opinion, they had no business being in the best shots of the year. BTW...I did not look at who shot what. So, if i stepped on some ones toes, I apologize.
My favorites were 44, 42, and 5. In that order. |

| ->> Add me to the list in favor of the NBC offering ... While there were quite a few really strong images in the SI set ... I would have to say the NBC collection were much stronger as group ... As well as many more from non traditional settings ... Who knew sumo wrestlers were that limber? ... :-) |

->> Wow. On NBC's, #19 thru 33 are awesome. As much as I abhor sign photos, actually staking out one with subtitles for a Tiger photo is kind of cool too. For #10, basically the same image won the Eclipse Award for 2010.
One has to wonder if SI was "choosing" from the same pool. Seemed to be all Si photogs with several Icon SMI pix thrown in.
Nice job sifting through millions of images by NBC to find some nice stuff. |

| ->> Loved the HS wrestling shot. Loved all of them but because I have never seen any wrestler, in the two decades of covering it, grab the mat like that. Hilarious and kudos to the shooter! |

| ->> Even before seeing the MSNBC offering I was left feeling the SI group suffered for want of a tighter edit. SI has some nice images but also some that are, well, just OK. The MSNBC group was just plain good, every single shot impressed me. |

->> When MSNBC offers a better selection than SI ... that's bad news for SI.
The shot of the sumo wrestlers was great. Nice to see some youth sports shots mixed in (including the wrestlers). Were any of those photos taken by members? |

->> Another vote for NBC's photos, great stuff!
Check out ESPN.com's top 10 action photos of the year. Some amazing work of your not-so-average sports. The images take a little while to load, but worth the wait.
Check it out: ESPN.COM the gallery is towards the bottom of the homepage, labeled ZOOM gallery. Enjoy! |

Mike Carlson is a member here. I'm sure there are others too. |

->> I bailed out of the SI slideshow because the user experience was just so very lame. Such long load times for all the social widgets and ad streams, and the "next" button wouldn't activate until all that other stuff loaded in. I'm on an OK network and it was upwards of 5 seconds before I was able to click "next."
Back in 2004, there was a story that SI Photo Editors at the Super Bowl were reviewing 2-3 images a second during and after the game. Glad they weren't saddled with this public-facing web-based interface for that task!
Sure, ad dollars and trackability are important, but when it leads to slow load times and viewer bail-out, it's a lose-lose, in my opinion... |

->> IMHO, you know what seems to be the recurring theme in a majority of these images? "flight" or "airborne" or "in the air" really stands out to me whether the participants in the images are falling, leaping, jumping or flying through the air...
Great stuff in all the galleries....
