Quick Photo Mechanic question

->> In the process of moving from one Mac to another in the office, I'm wondering if there is a way to migrate the data from the PM caption fields to the new machine - network, thumb drive or so on. I'd rather not have to manually populate the drop down lists of towns and places if I don't have to.
thanx

->> Go to your hard drive>users>YourUserName>Library>Preferences and get the com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic folder. Copy that to the same location on your new drive.
While you're there, you can grab any other plist files that have photomechanic in the name. (something like com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic.LSSharedFileList.plist)
That should get most of your settings |

->> or you can go to "Preferences" within PhotoMechanic, and click on "export" on the bottom of the window.
Select all (if desired), export, and import the same way in the new machine. |

->> Thanks Robert. You are now regarded as a Hero of Photographers, First Class.
Scott, you are also well thought of, but with just not quite as simple a solution. |

| ->> I'm pretty sure Robert was already thought of as a Hero of Photographers before he told of his far superior solution. |

| ->> Of course you could just put them on the server drive and map to that location when you click "Load" in the IPTC Stationary window. Wouldn't work well if you were not connected, but if you are it could save you lots of trouble down the road. |

| ->> I went for the simple solution - export to desktop file, save on thumb drive, load from drive to machine #2, import. Took about 2 minutes. I can't see anything being any simpler. |

->> Glad it worked well Dave, and thanks for kind words. Hero, no, first class x^%%^$X sometimes:)
The export sometimes gets fubared, especially if moving to a radically different machine, but mostly a good solution.
Also good to keep a copy of your prefs on the same machine in case you lose a setting or wish to clear all and re load. |

| ->> It was one of those "We decided you guys need a faster machine even though you didn't ask for it" things. The old G5 is now the spare - with a 15 yr old CTR monitor to boot... |
