| ->> Looking for good sources and prices for equipment insurance. This is for a buddy at work. I had an Inland Marine policy years ago. Are they still writing? My friend got an estimated based on dollar value to add a rider to his homeowners' insurance he believes is almost double what it should be. It's almost as much as the cost for the homeowners policy in the first place. Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated. |

->> I'd stick with a company that specializes in photographers insurance...
I'm with Hill & Usher written by Travelers business side.
$20,000 in gear, $25,000 in computer equip, and 2 mil liability coverage. $500 deductible..all around $800 per year. Pricey... yes, almost as much as my homeowners, but well worth the piece of mind in case some low life scumbag steals my equipment or if I accidentally drop my 400 on some kids head.
There's other options out there...heard good things about TCP Ins. and NAAP, etc..
No pro should leave home without it and should be required at all working events. |

| ->> I am with Union Mutual Fire out of Montpelier, VT. A small company with real personal service. Paid roughly $700 with a $250 deductible for around $21,000 worth of insurance. When I made a claim, they did NOT raise my premium or change my deductible and they handled the claim quickly with a minimum amount of hassle. |

->> My local Nationwide guy wrote a commercial policy, but the equipment was insured by Inland Marine, although serviced and collected by Nationwide.
Also, fwiw, if you add it to your homeowners (and it's doubtful most will insure commercial equipment on a homeowner policy) and you have a claim it will raise your entire homeowner's policy rates for a very long time. |

| ->> A lot depends on whether your friend needs commercial insurance or not. If it's just personal use then something like Hill and Usher is overkill - i.e. he doesn't need liability. In that case, he might also look into State Farm - they offer a Personal Articles policy - no deductible. But if he's doing professional work those types of policies typically won't pay (and there's no liability associated). In that case, then yes you need to use something like Hill & Usher. |

| ->> I haven't tried all of these companies, but most of them don't insure in Rhode Island. Anyone in RI have a suggestion for commercial/inland Marine coverage. I'd like to remove from home owner policy. |

->> I just got a quote through Hays / NPPA for $28K in replacement cost, $500 deductible for breakage and $1000 deductible for theft.
Quote was just under $1200.
Should I keep looking? Sounds like some of you are getting cheaper.
Thanks in advance.

My yearly cost for equipment and I also carry $1M in liability runs me about $900 per year. |

| ->> Another +1 for Tom C. Pickard Insurance. I have about $35K of equipment and a $2/$4 mill liability policy for about a little under $900 a year. Certainly not cheap, but worth it when and if you need it. |
