| ->> What do you suggest I purchase to clean my D3 sensor? I've got a steady hand and a keen eye - as long as the DT's don't kick in while my working on it. |

| ->> Arctic Butterfly system is now my cleaner of choice with the static free brush, the LED lighted loupe, and the swabs which IMO are the best swabs there are out there. |

->> Rob I've been used sensor swabs and Eclipse going back to '03 and have never once had any issues. A year or two ago I found a product called "Dust-Wand" and switched over to that. Essentially you get a set of plastic spatulas (sized to the different sensor sizes) that you wrap in a pec-pad to make your own sensor swab. This cuts the cost by 80% over buying packages of sensor swabs.
VisibleDust has a 'corner swab' that I L-O-V-E for cleaning the outer margin of the sensor where a regular swab normally leaves crap. These are a bit pricey but IMHO worth it. I replace my Eclipse every six months. Alcohol has an affinity for water (that's why it's sold as 'dry-gas') and 'wet' alcohol will leave streaks on your sensor.
I use a high intensity (99 cent) led flashlight at oblique angles to help locate the gunk. I also start by cleaning and wiping the lens mount FIRST while the shutter is still closed. That will get any metal flakes picked up well before the can fall onto the sensor. 2 or 3 passes with a moistened tissue paper.

->> Hey, Paul, specifically which system are you recommending? I have looked at the Arctic Butterfly systems, and other than the 1.3/1.6/1.7X sensor designations, I get confused which brush, which swab, which twirly thing, which liquid, etc., is preferred.
Rotary motion brush; Super Brite LED sensor brush (with charge); 724 travel kit (with or without light); 788 system; SD800 Pro system; Fabric sensor cleaning brush; Sensor Cleaning liquid; ??? |
