Transcend CF Card error on 5D2

->> I have a 16 gig 400x card from Transcend which is giving me errors in my 5D mark II. I am wondering if it's just me, or if anyone else has the issue.
If I tag an image on the card in PhotoMechanic and then put the card back in the camera, then that image has an error message that reads "Cannot Play Back Image". This doesn't happen with any of my other cards.
Anybody else run into this? |

| ->> I get the same error message on my Sandisk cards (Extreme III & IV) cards and on my 1DMarkIV camera as well. |

| ->> Gerry, how big are the cards? I wonder if this is an issue with the 16 gig or greater size cards. I don't get the error with my 8 gig Sandisk Extreme IV |

->> I never have problems with memory cards giving me errors. I never edit directly on my cards, I'd dump them on a harddrive or laptop and work from that before messing with the card. If that card gets corrupted for some reason, you may have lost all the images. It seems pretty risky to me.
I'm thinking that when PhotoMechanic "tags" your photo, it adds data to that file, then the camera will no longer recognize it as a 5DII file. |

->> I'm just curious. why would you tag and image in PM (obviously using your computer) then put the card back in the
camera and not reformat it? I know it's a pain in the ass to tag images with the MII5D (I don't) while shooting....but I'm kind of perplexed as to why you would do what you're doing. |

->> Scott, I use 4 & 2gb cards. I think what Chris is saying is correct, there are probably some data that PM writes in the card that the camera cannot not read.
It's never been a problem to me as I always format my cards before reusing them. I also don't add images to cards I've worked on PM in case that error causes problems reading newer images taken.
I hope this helps. |

->> Chuck, I almost always format the card after downloading the images I want off it. Sometimes I don't though (for whatever reason, may be in a hurry and want something later or just forget) and continue shooting on the card. I see the message when I scroll through them again. I haven't lost images from this, but it concerns me a little that something may be wrong with the card.
Like I said, I don't seem to have the issue with my Sandisk cards. I've edited off the card forever and haven't had a problem. Most of the time I don't need or have space for the whole disk, so I don't waste the time to copy the whole thing to the computer. |
