Excited for iPad future

->> I am excited for the rumors I have read on the iPad newspaper, love the new CNN app, simcity was just released, plus many more websites are releasing iPad friendly websites.

Anyone else loving this little gem like I am?

->> I love my iPad so much that I bought my wife one for her birthday so she will stop stealing mine.

My kids love it also - there are so many apps for my kids that help them with letter recognition, phonics, and spelling. We have seen huge leaps in my daughters talking (she is 2) since she uses my iPad.

->> The iPad has radically changed how I work, travel, read, interact and provide solutions to social media clients.

I can't think of a single tool that has so drastically changed everything about so many things. I can't wait for the new iPad to come out!

I love mine (32gb 3G, wife now has one as well and she almost never touches her MacBook any longer), kids use it sometimes and they love it and use it easily ... and when I upgrade to whatever comes out next, they'll end up with an iPad of their own.

->> I just got mine last week when they dropped the price on the 16 GB WiFi to $429 on the refurb store. I'm using it for this post.

I new I would like it, but even more than I expected.

I too am excited about future new features and software. Though, if I do get the next iteration ... I will get the 3G model as long as it is not tied to AT&T ... Their network here is not all that reliable ....

I've found many uses for the iPad in my daily workflow and using it for initial processing, captioning and uploading via FTP using Filterstorm on deadline is but one.

->> I shot a CEO-level industry event in Chicago this summer and was surprised to see more than half of dozen of them carrying iPads. I talked with some of them and the universal theme was that they still packed a laptop but mostly used the iPad because of its small size and weight and because 90% of the time they only needed to read and respond to e-mails and to read documents. They also raved about the fast startup vs. a PC.

The other thing I noticed was that all of them either had a case with a built-in keyboard or they used the Apple bluetooth keyboard.

Apple is so good at understanding what technology can do for people, it almost defies explanation.

I just brought it to an engagement shoot today and the couple signed the wedding contract using the iPad. It was very easy to make annotations and we had the retainer paid, contract signed, and PDF copies emailed before leaving the parking lot! The couple was impressed and I saved some time and effort. I'm a fan.

I think now that it has had time to mature app wise it has proven to make life that much better/simpler

I only use my laptop for work, any other time it is me iPad

I'm curious if anyone has any recommendations/thoughts on a photo portfolio app? I've done some looking about and see that there are quite a few contenders. Are you or someone you know using something that is working well for your needs?

Also, in terms using the iPad for presentations ... has anyone had decent success? What tips/secrets might you be willing to share?

Thanks in advance for the help.

->> Christopher: I find the built in photo browser fine for sharing images with it's ability to quickly browse and display slideshows with/without music. I don't use it, however, because you need to plug the iPad into a computer to update the photos.

I prefer a nice HTML5 interface to my existing online portfolio. SlideShow Pro (
http://slideshowpro.net/) has a really nice iPad interface and so does APhotoFolio. The former will integrate nicely with any existing portfolio website and the latter is a standalone portfolio application. APhotoFolio is a bit pricey, but a great infrastructure if you need it. Slideshow pro is very cheap and beautiful on the web, iPhone, and iPad. Even if you don't want to integrate SlideShow Pro into your existing website, you can setup a standalone gallery and just browse to the URL with your iPad.

What kind of presentations are you talking about? The iPad does have the iWork app which can display iWork and Powerpoint presentations.

Hey Chris, you've got me curious... what are you using to manage your contracts to allow for a digital signature?

Clients really like the interface and I like the customization, the ability to organize the images ... And you don't need to go online to view.

->> Kirby: I'm using 'PDF Expert' (http://readdle.com/pdfexpert_ipad) for digital contracts. Once all your contracts have been turned into PDF forms, they can be quickly filled out, signed, and emailed as PDFs from the app.

PDF Expert also has Dropbox (
http://www.dropbox.com/) integration. Any changes you make to your contract template on your computer can be synced to the iPad provided you have connectivity (wifi/3g).

Add to that the Square app (
https://squareup.com/) for taking credit card payments from the iPad/iPhone and the Paypal app (http://bit.ly/dw8UJh) for instantly depositing checks... :)

->> Thanks @Chris Hunt for the information - both on the portfolio solutions as well as how you've integrated the iPad + apps into your business workflow. I'll look into the interfaces you mention.

@Butch Miller - Porfolio for iPad was one that I looked at. Sounds like you (and your clients) are pleased with it. It's a bit pricey so I'm happy to hear some praise prior to making a decision for/against considering it as an option. The coolest part (to me) is the ability to integrate with Dropbox to build galleries. Seems much more efficient that using iTunes and synching photos to the device.

Ah ... technology! I love it.

->> Two of the leading newspapers here in the UK have dedicated iPad editions. The Times is the one that I subscribe to and the great thing is that most of the images in the iPad edition show galleries of images rather than the single image chosen for the print edition. The quality is great, the speed of loading is very good and it beats the c**p out of the website version of the paper.

The Sunday Times has now gone iPad too and looks brilliant. I was wiring from a Starbucks in a business area of London yesterday and looked around to see seven different people using iPads, three using MacBooks and only one Windows PC. There were a few Blackberrys and several iPhones in use too. Only two people were reading a printed publication.

The new Hyndai Equus comes with an interactive owners manual on an iPad. I'm fascinated to see how the public will respond and whether other manufacturers will follow suit.
