->> Have any of you had this problem. When I shoot horizontally on AF with my Canon Mark III the images are soft, but when shooting vertically they are tack sharp. This sucks I just got my camera back from CPS.

->> Is it a high mileage body? My bet would be that the secondary mirror hinges or hing holes are worn out. Thus when the camera is tilted the secondary mirror flips up ever so slightly and distorts the image being sent to the AF sensors.

I had a similar issue on a D3 that was about to be returned "no problem found" from the shop. I called and discussed the issue with service and that afternoon they called back to tell me that the holes that the AF mirror hinges on were worn and elliptical and just enough to be intermittent and not easily detected.
