Photoshop question re: file info automation?

->> Can the repetitive file information under file>file info>general such as author, author's position, maybe portions of the caption, caption writer, job name, copyright notice and owner URL of an image be imported into all the images of an assignment or can an action be created so it auto fills the repetive yet constant data and one only has to complete the title and caption? I do a lot of cut and pasting but if I can find a way to auto fill it that would be great. ADOBE are you listening and if you can forgive me for yelling.

->> I have created an action to do just what you are asking. Go to actions> create new> and then do all of your steps and stop recording. Then you can go to file> automate> batch and run that action on an entire folder at once.

->> HOW STUPID CAN I BE - if all else fails read the instructions. Chris thanks for the input but I found an easier way. DUH big time. Fill in the constant information and click on the save button and name the file. Then when you open up a new image click on Load and select the file and whooptidooooooooooo there it is.

Photo Mechanic is by far the easiest way I have found to batch caption images. It only takes a couple of seconds for hundreds of files.

It isn’t cheap, but they have a demo available if you want to give it a try.

->> I think you might be better served by an application such as PhotoMechanic that will allow you to do batch captioning, save custom iptc templates, etc., etc.
Best of all, PM can add to the iptc fields without having to open and resave the file as needs to be done in PS (unless I'm missing something..) and therefore won't degrade image quality due to repeated resaves (assuming you are working with jpeg files).
You can also use PM to ingest (download) your files from card to computer, at which time you can have it apply all the pertinent file fields as well as a generic caption. Saves having to do this as a separate step later. One other benefit is that all your files are now captioned and can be searched using asset management applications such as Cumulus and Portfolio. So, if you or your employer maintain a photo archive, it will allow for easier retrieval of non published images from specific shoots.

->> when you have file info up...just click 'save' after you put your repetitive info in....save it somewhere...and next time click 'load' and choose that file. I have one for each publication. I think that's what you're asking for...hope it helps!
