1DMkII Personal Funtion 06?

| ->> I have never really messed with my personal functions and I'm not sure 06 is the one I need but with a little guidance I think I can sort it out, so here I am. What I want to do is assign the focus point button on the camera to automatically switch between M and Av mode. Can this be done and if so, is Pfn 06 what I need? Assuming that is correct, how do I go about changing that? Seems that I plug the camera into the computer via USB and open the utilities. I just don't want to mess something up as I leave for Africa in one week and have almost no time to fix it if I do something stupid. Thanks! |

->> Yep. It's personal function #6. But it is not the focus point button. It is the WB, +/- button. This was dubbed the "Chris Lee button" on here a few years back - http://tinyurl.com/2g8jgug
I just discovered this and wrote about it on my blog as well. http://tinyurl.com/22kgtur
Once you get the hang of moving your thumb over, it is extremely helpful. |

| ->> This PF sounds great. From what I read on Max's blog, you have to push both buttons at the same time to keep focussing and switch to AV mode. Is this correct? |

| ->> Stew, nope. You just have to push the buttons together to program it. Once it's programmed, you switch to AV and maintain AF when you push the WB, +/- button. If you want to go back to normal shooting (manual mode for me), just release and go back to focusing with the ( * ) button. |

->> Man, where the heck have I been? I've had my MkIIn's for 4 years and didn't know anything like this existed.
This is great. I frequently will shoot in Av when I'd prefer to be in M, because of situations exactly as described in Chris' article. This is definitely worth trying out.
Thanks! |

| ->> Yep, thanks so much guys. I usually prefer M but this is going to be great for those moments when it's too awkward to change settings quickly (and all of you MkII/former MkII owners know what I mean with our multiple button press to make a change bodies). In any case, I appreciate the help very much. |

| ->> Mark, I'd think that the Mark3 would have a similar setting. I am under the impression that the Mark4 has it as a stand-alone fucntion. I can't imagine it would be in the Mark1,2 and 4 and skip the Mark3. |
