How to be an AP photographer (correction)

| ->> Just wanted to clear up an erroneous link. The link to Anthony Maddaloni which Mike posted was the wrong guy. He is a portrait photographer in NJ. His son emailed me and said they've been getting lots of emails from people thinking his dad is the "eHow" dude. He's not. The eHow fellow is from Austin, Tx. and is obviously MUCH younger than the senior Mr. Maddaloni, who actually started his studio in 1981. Mr. eHow works for the Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin and apparently owns a business called "Left of Center Photography". Just wanted to clear that up. Oh, and if you want yet another laugh learn from the "esteemed" Maddaloni see how you can start your own photography business from the ground up with an investment of $3000-$5000!!! According to this enlightened dude this would include buying your camera, lens, digital cards, computer and all the peripherals you need! |

->> Chuck,
For that can buy two prosumer kits packages and have two bodies, four lenses (ok, the same 2 lenses twice but, hey, doesn't a pro need backup), a couple cards and a "professional" camera bag.
And still have money left over to travel to a few NFL games on spec.
Isn't that all you need? |

->> Sorry about that Chuck. My error. I Goggled Anthony Maddaloni and when I found him, wrongly assumed that there could not be multiple Anthony Maddalonis who were professional photographers.
Thank you for clearing that up.

@mike, no worries....as I said in my reply to the fellow's email whodathunk there would be two photogs with the same name, since it just isn't that common of a name.... |

Just shoot the photos on your iPhone, edit them in the $2.99 Filterstorm App, and send via your iPhone Mail. |

->> Chuck I attended the media meet & greet for the local high schools playing title games at Gillette last Thursday. Members (mostly seniors) and coaches from the 12 teams were on the field at Gillette to be interviewed by the various local media outlets. So at one point I notice a guy walking around with an iPhone on a tripod. He would plop the tripod down start recording video and conduct the interview......
Wait for it.........
Wait for it.........
Wait for it.........
I was later told he was the ESPN producer getting B roll. |

->> Chuck, You mean my $250 netbook isn't good enough??????
And I did see a credentialed someone shooting the MLS All-Star game with their cell phone (when they deemed their point-and-shoot not up to par, apparently). Really glad they took that spot on the end line where I would have liked to set up. Alas. |

Don't forget what Chase Jarvis says, "What's the best camera in the world? The one you have with you!" I believe he's published a book of I-Phone images that has been relatively successful. |

->> Curtis oh how I wish I was kidding....... At first I thought that it might be a Flip HD but as he drew closer there was no doubt that it was an iPhone. When i mentioned this 2 days later on the sideline, a writer who had been at the same event stated that 'he' was shooting video for ESPN to be cut into the coverage of the superbowls.
Not Kidding.
And here I thought seeing a Hassablad with a digital back at a Pop Warner game was going to be THE jaw dropper of my football season....

->> Jeff, people put tiny cameras and lenses on monopods because they read the photo magazines that say to shoot sports you should have your camera supported by a monopod. Of course, the magazines mean if you are using a 300 f2.8 or higher (though many, myself included, don't worry with the monopod for the 300 either).
But these folks interpret it they should always use a monopod, and they want to fit in with all the pros they see using them. |

->> Jeff,
I have these http://amzn.to/i8KLfd ... but in pink in my bag. My daughter bought them for me :0)
Oh and I also have a set of a pink and a black Hello Kitty Fender Stratocasters hung in my living room ... the ladies of the house picked those out.
I wanted the limited edition Chuck Norris Fender Strat where things are laying dead all around him due to his sheer awesomeness ... but alas I was overruled (and they don't exist).
Chuck ... wait ... what was I talking about again? |
