->> Kevin I thought they were just plain allen screws also known as hex screws (in the US anyway). Got a closeup photo?

->> You might check with the folks at Wimberley (www.tripodhead.com) as they make a replacement foot for the lens (if memory serves, they also provided a longer-than-usual hex tool to use when removing and replacing screws in the lens foot with the replacement foot for the 400). They ought to know exactly what size tool you're going to need.

->> allen wrench...cant remember what size. As stated, my wimberly came with the tool. Although I'm sure its a common size so if you have one of those multi pack allen wrench sets you prob have what you need.

->> Like Eric and Brad said, it's definitely a smaller-sized, standard allen (hex key) wrench that's needed to complete this simple operation. Don't remember whether it was metric or SAE, but I was done in a few minutes. One operation where reading the Nikon instruction manual seems to guarantee (more) confusion.
You can do it! |

->> It is either M3 or M5 hex. Pretty sure it's M3 but it should be one of those two.

->> I used a 2.5mm Hex on my AFS-II last week. The VR should be the same size.
