DVD/CD disk Duplicators?

->> I am investigating a CD/DVD duplicator and am wondering if anyone has experience with these and can recommend one.
I currently have 100 or so disks, 6 different disks 15 each, to make from an event I covered. This is going to be time consuming to use the DVD writer on my PC. I can and probably will use it this time but with 4 more events coming up and with the sales of team CD's gaining popularity I am leaning towards a duplicator to speed up the process
I would perfer a standalone type so I can use my pc while the disks are being made... if there is such a thing. I can make one on my PC then insert it into a standalone writer and make 3,4,5 at the same time???
Any recommendations appreciated!!

->> Can't comment on anything specific for a CD/DVD duplicator but unless your clients very specifically want to get physical media, why not cut out all that work and just deliver the digital goodies directly?
Take all the files that you are going to burn onto the CD/DVD and then compress with Zip or StuffIt into one file. Once the client has paid, find some sort of delivery that works for the file size you end up with. Maybe it can be emailed if small enough? Or maybe Photoshelter has some automated system that could work for them to download directly from? Or try YouSendIt for sending larger zipped files to clients?
I have no idea of what you do or what your clients want. But they are probably going to load the files from the disc onto their machine and then more than likely forget about the disc altogether. So why not cut out all the work and expense on your end and just deliver digitally? Just a thought. |

->> I have the 1 to 7 QD Pro series Dupicator from MicroBoards, wound up purchasing it from Jeff Snyder at Adorama. Works very well.
We've started doing a little video as well. Very nice way to go... 24X DVD writing.
Nice solution and super easy to use.

->> Well with the last two events being a success and one more coming up in a week I could finally justify a DVD duplicator. I decided on the Microboards QD-DVD series. I got the 1-3 version.
SIMPLE to use and makes 3 copies of a master disk in 6-7 minutes. A huge efficiency increase from my PC's burner setup, one at a time and 12 minutes each PLUS it slowed the system to almost non usable.
Now 3 disks are burning and I am working on other orders.
This will be a great addition to my work flow and will pay for itself in time very quickly.
Would recommend the Microboards products.

->> We invested in the Diskmakers 7 Disk duplicator for our season this year.
So far it has been solid. They are built solid, and they seem like a great company.
I also believe they are priced well. I purchase around 600 disks at a time as well to help save some money. |

->> At the university that I work at, we do A LOT of duplications. We have both Discmakers and Rimage and I have strong opinions about both. The Discmakers unit plain sucks. It never worked well and it has gone through quite a few drive replacements. It also gets confused very easily and says it won't do what it is currently doing. The Rimage (we have 2) are better but are VERY temper mental. I truly believe that if it is a day that they don't feel like working, they won't. The down side to both systems is that they are PC only which doesn't work all too well when all of my edit stations are Mac's. I am currently looking very hard at replacing all of my units with a couple of Primera BravoPro's. They are Mac compatible and are super fast with decent quality.

I will be at NAB in a couple of weeks and will be talking to all of the duplication vendors quite a lot. |

->> Jason,
Don't overlook Microboards Technology Duplicators.... have burned over 300 DVD's over the last couple days and no problems. the 300 being in groups of 15 so 20 or so different master disks.
I know it is a short time but my experience is if it is going to fail it will early. Another 75 or so and then a rest.... for a couple weeks at least.
This has been well worth it as I have been able to ship out orders way before I expected and promised, as well as work on other print orders!!

| ->> Thanks, Jim! Microboards is the only one that I don't have experience with. I will definitely talk to them at NAB and take a hard look at their line for comparison. |
