Need help finding a Flickr function...
Jack Howard, Photographer, Photo Editor

->> I can't remember if it was officially on Flickr, or built off Flickr's API or RSS, or what, but does anyone here recall seeing a link recently where you could see a stream of shots from Flickr from this particular lens or that, like the Canon 50mm f/2.5 macro, or the Nikon 24mm PC lens?

Thanks so much if you can point me to this photo feed.

Jack

->> If you do a search for Canon 50mm f/2.5 on Flickr it will return a set of results. Based on the search results you can filter down from there. You can also filter initially using the advanced search.

http://pixel-peeper.com is also very useful for this

Be sure to include the hyphen in the URL, I can't remember what pixelpeeper.com is, but I don't think it has to do with lenses.

Choose the lens from a list, and then there's a drop down menu where you can narrow it down even further. If you want to see photos taken with a Nikon 14mm 2.8 on a D3s at f/5.6, you can find them through that tool.

->> Jack: I think you may be talking about some undocumented Flickr search parameters. Here are the parameters I am aware of:

xel = minimum shutter speed (seconds)
xeh = maximum shutter speed (seconds)
xfl = minimum focal length
xfh = maximum focal length
xah = minimum aperture size (largest f number)
xal = maximum aperture size (smallest f number)

You will need to manually construct a url to fit your query. If I wanted to find photos of flowers taken with a lens 50mm or less with an aperture of 1.8 or larger, I would navigate to the following URL:

http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=flower&xfh=50&xah=1.8

You'll find that some photos slip through the search that don't match your criteria. Since these parameters are undocumented, I can't expect it to work perfectly, but it does work very well if you are searching for images matching specific EXIF.
