OT - Verizon's new iPad marketing
Jeff Brehm, Photographer, Photo Editor

->> You may have seen recent TV commercials showing a young man using an iPad with Verzion via the Mifi device. I thought this was a clever marketing ploy that would appeal to those (like me) who don't like AT&T ... until I checked on the cost. The Verizon rep told me a 5GB/month service costs $59.95 and that the prices for running over are very steep. And 10Gb is far worse -- almost $200 a month!

I'm not familiar with the costs of using Mifi and like devices. Is this typical? It's far more than what the costs are for the optional 3G accounts cost for iPads.

->> Verizon has seperate broadband packages for the iPad. 1gb-$20, 3gb-$35, 5gb-$50, 10gb-$80

Not sure how they justify the lower prices for the iPad. It's the same internet right?

->> Slightly OT but who wants to use the Mifi device anyway? Wait for v2 with CDMA guts to work with Verizon along with the CDMA Iphone Q1 of 2011.

->> Most of us have pda/smartphones these days anyways. There are way to many ways to tether or get a free hotzone to work with an ipad or laptop. Why pay extra for it?

With numbers of smart phone and tablet sales rising astronomically ... internet and broadband traffic is going to increase exponentially ... someone is going to have to pay to provide the infrastructure to support that volume ... naturally that will fall on the consumer ... the days of unlimited internet usage at bargain basement pricing, mobile or otherwise, my be coming to an end ...
