Ever cancel an order?

->> A short story for your consideration.
Having spent the last month listening to our designated sales rep at AERMAC Holdings tells us that our order for new gear was being held up while "waiting for Nikon to release the cameras" we finally gave up. Nobody seemed to have a straight answer regarding delivery, nor were they in any hurry to get us one, so we did a bit of jumping thru their hoops and canceled the order. We went with these folks - who used to be National Graphic Supply - for business reasons relating to a buying coop our paper belongs to. We'll probably continue to order batteries and other sundries, but for capital purchases, they've essentially lost a customer. Additionally, we rebid the gear, got a significantly lower quote and a tracking number for delivery next week with two phone calls.
The point? A. To vent a bit. B. A reminder that customer service is important as price and quality. |

->> The power of the purchase order.
I've canceled more than a couple in my day. What is disturbing, David, is that evidently your coop isn't doing it's job. Whoever is running the coop needs a wake up call. A lower price is one thing, but bad service by a vendor who is supposed to partner with your coop is something else entirely.
I've been active in coops for over 30 years. I've been in leadership positions on the Board of Directors of two of them and I know how many of these groups work.
I've move my business 3 times because sometimes the people who administer the organizations get fat and happy and the members suffer. I wasn't popular the last time because I asked a lot of tough questions that made people squirm. I finally resigned because it was easier to change groups then change the rest of the Board. They have weakened to the point where their continued operation is in doubt.
Tell whoever in your organization to watch what's going on carefully. There are all sorts of red flags here. Contact me directly if needed.

->> Dave,
You've named the problem company. Who did you end up going with?

->> I would like to recommend Roberts for the very reason Dave had a problem. We (Duke) bid out several places for the capital purchase order we wanted to make. Roberts made it happen when others couldn't. They found a way to have ALL the gear we wanted at one time. They were VERY customer service oriented and stayed in contact with us on status and delivery.

| ->> I've got to say that when we had our last capital budget approval Jeff Snyder came through with the lowest prices and had everything in stock, so we went with Adorama. |

| ->> If I ruled the world, Jeff would have gotten the call. In point of fact, I sent him info about the organization some time back, and as I'm not charged with purchasing decisions, haven't followed up to see if his worthy employer signed on. |
