FTP programs for PCs?

->> Hey all,
I was wondering, for all of you PC users out there, what FTP program(s) you use and that work best for you?
I've been using FireFTP through my Firefox browser, but I was recently told that some stadiums/locations won't actually let you use it as those ports are blocked. I haven't run into that yet, but I don't want to run into that problem when I need to send out my images ASAP.
So, I'm looking into FTP programs for PC. I see a bunch of good ones for Macs, but no one has really listed any for PC's.
Any help would be appreciated. :-)
Thanks,
Mat |

->> Beware, though, it may not be just the FireFTP that is blocked. Some places block ALL FTP traffic.
They should not do it at stadiums, but I know at the Redskins earlier this year they did block FTP traffic and no one, no matter what program could send. |

->> John, no reason to remove Transmit, you can just start using PM's built in client right away. They don't interfere with each other.
You may still need Transmit as a full featured FTP client to retrieve files from an FTP server at some point or to move files that aren't photos. |

->> John,
Using the built-in FTP in PM is the best way to streamline.
You don't have to get out of the program and find the folder with your files, find the file and then drag it over. You simply hit a command (on Mac it's Apple U for upload) and you're done. |

| ->> On a different note, I just got into www.pixoasis.com and it is phenomenal, a good alternative to FTP. You can get a free 50MB membership to try it out. I won a 1GB account from ASMP and so far, my clients have loved it! I have transferred full sized jpegs from lightroom directly, about 20 in 4our minutes and the client downloaded them minutes later. FYI. |

->> Curtis,
Windows or Mac?
There are programs that let you set a hot folder so when a photo lands there it will send it. I know Transmit (on Mac) will let you do it and I think later versions of Fetch (on Mac) will also.
Not sure about the Windows world. |

->> George I'm a Windows guy... after some looking I found Fling, which is free:
http://www.nchsoftware.com/ftp/index.html
I downloaded the software from CNET and it's pretty slick. The problem is, when you install the software you designate the single hot folder on your local drive and the single target folder on the FTP site, and I haven't found a way to change those folders once the installation is complete. I'm guessing the $30 upgrade to the Plus version allows those changes.
The software is aimed at web administrators I think, so every time you make a change to index.html or similar files the upload is automatic and effortless. |

->> Thanks all...I really appreciate the info. :-)
Lots of different options and that's always good. So far, I've tried FileZilla from recommendations here and really like it. I've never tried the PM option, but I will set it up with my info, just in case.
I just use a full client all the time for my normal site, not just uploads to the media servers, so I needed an all around client. I forgot to mention that. Ooops.
But it's good to have other options, just in case.
Thanks again for everyone's help. Much appreciated as always. :-)
Happy Holidays,
Mat |
