->> For all you bloggers out there, please blog about copyright this Friday.
Dear Copyright Advocates,
You might have heard about the writer, Jane Smith, a couple weeks ago whose story was published by "Cooks Source" magazine without her consent. Writers and artists alike were upset by the blatant disregard that the editor of the magazine showed Jane when she contacted the magazine about the infringement.
Here is a blog by the Copyright Alliance for a quick summary about the infringement case and the outcome: bit.ly/9pQnRG
Because of this uproar, Jane is asking that all artists and creators blog about copyright on Friday, November 19th. She says in her blog,
"I have no idea exactly what I'm going to write about yet: and I'm not going to tell you exactly what to write about, either. We could write about how copyright works, and what it means, and how people can protect their works from infringement; we could write about famous (or infamous!) cases of copyright infringement; or we could write specific, personal accounts of how our work was stolen or how we misappropriated other writers' works when we knew no better. So long as we write about copyright, and try to turn this into a positive, helpful experience, all contributions will be welcomed."
Many, many people out there don't quite understand copyright and what it means to artists. If a lot of artists, creators, and copyright holders blog about copyright on the same day, then we can likely make some impact on educating the public about why copyright is important to us.
She is posting her blog at 10am GMT (London time), and she is encouraging others to add links to their blogs about copyright in the comments section of her blog once hers appears.
If you blog about copyright on Friday, let me know. I'd love to compile the blogs on the Copyright Alliance's website as well!
