Selling a domain name or website

->> Does anyone have any expertise or advice in regard to selling a domain name and/or the photo cart and website hosted on it? I lost my part-time HTML guy and this is a JavaScript/HTML site so I am using a different cart and don't need this site anymore. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

->> You sell it like anything else; advertise where the subject matter is most relevant. Also use Craigslist, etc. You can also post a notice with your registrar.

->> Yes, I have researched a number of sources already. But how does one price it reasonably? I have received recommendations from $350 for domain name to $8000 for domain, cart and site. What I would like to know is has anyone on SS actually been through the process and how did they succeed with it? Or lose with it for that matter? There are many places to list it for sale but no one seems to have any real world criteria for establishing price.

->> What is the site?

You might be able to sell it here?

What is it worth? Well what someone is willing to pay for it. Start high and reduce if you don't get any buyers.

->> Thank you Mike.

The site is www.ViewYourPhotos.com and I didn't even think about anyone on SS being interested. It can sell as domain only, or domain plus the cart, or the site as is. Anyone who knows basic HTML (I don't)could strip out the existing galleries and post what they wished. I will tell you that the cart set up with prices and print sizes has some value because it takes a while to come up with all that. It is right-click protected and you can password protect galleries or not, as you wish.

I used it for years for my wedding/portrait/events business when I spent more time on that. My full-time gig now is www.PhotoActiveInc.com

->> It is a JavaScript based software my former tech guy found from a supplier in England. If you want exact details I would have to track them down for you. As I recall I paid a few hundred for the software back in 2004. My tech guru has all the details. He was stricken with Parkinson's and can't do web work anymore but he is still on top of passwords, updates and other details.

->> You can put it up for sale on a site like www.sedo.com or www.afternic.com , they take a small fee but the audience you can reach is incredible.

->> I've used Sedo to sell several domains, I've signed up and checked out Afternic but never sold a domain there. They are very similar in features, cost, etc..

I thought of another place after I posted those, www.dnforum.com , it's a forum that's free to join, and no cost for selling a domain. A big audience but domains don't sell for as much there.

->> How did you go about establishing an asking price for the domains you sold? Or did you just put them up for bid and take your chances?
