I will always remember a wonderful shot he took at Soldier Field of players in the snow from one of the many of the now-defunked football leagues...it made me and Chris Covatta just drool with envy when it was published the next day...we were there, we froze our butts off and had nothing nearly as good. We were bummed. He kicked our pathetic efforts with one picture. Over the years, we've continued to be thrilled and amazed at his work. The National Geographic special tonight was a wonderful insight into his world. It was a joy to watch. I hope everyone who visits this site will get a chance to see this show. Thanks, Pete, for 30 years of wonderful work, both in journalism for our Chicago papers and at the White House. I'm amazed at your energy and commitment, much as I'm amazed by my Getty brethern who work covering wars and disasters all over the world. I'm proud to be a small part of this generation of fine photojournalists, even if I only shoot guys with names on their jerseys and blood on their pants. I love PBS for the simple reason that we would never see that show anywhere else. As I got older, I started to appreciate that channel with no commercials.
