->> I have a friend asking me to help him get setup with some video equipment for non-profit organization he runs.I know very little about the current state of video cameras, accessories, etc. but would like to help where I can.
I think there will be a lot of questions along the way and a lot of assitance needed in getting a complete setup. My plan right now is to take him over to Samy's in LA and visit the pro video department. Any other places you would recommend in So Cal? any particular people you've dealth with you could suggest? |

->> I know Samy's is a sponsor, but I've heard nothing but horror stories about Samy's Rental department from about 5-6 people in the 3-1/2 months I've lived in LA. They also charge the full amount of the item which is understandable, but also a $500 deposit on most items. So, if you rent five one-thousand dollar items, they will charge $7500 on your card + rental fees.
I personally use http://www.lensrentals.com in TN via mail. I've rented two lenses for 5 days per and have nothing but good things to say about them. |

| ->> Brian, thanks. I'll be a bit more specific in saying that he wants to purchase, not rent. |

->> Mike,
I have found the staff at Samy's Playa Vista location to be great even when I've only been looking for general information. That is their main pro video spot, from what I've been able to tell.
@Brian; I've always had wonderful experiences when renting from Samy's (Fairfax). I've supplied them with an insurance certificate naming them as an additional insured, and have only been asked for a deposit in the amount of my deductable. When I was in town just a couple of weeks ago I rented approx $14k worth of lighting gear for a week & left a $1,000 deposit. The rental department staff has been fantastic every time I've been. |

| ->> If you are looking to rent a video camera, look no farther than Video Equipment Rentals (VER). www.verrents.com Their main office is in Glendale, but they have an Anaheim and Burbank office as well as tons of other offices around the country. They have a bagillion dollars worth of inventory and they have always given me gear that I need at the cost that my project can afford. |
