->> The TSA plans to announce that printer cartridges, 16oz by volume or larger, will be banned from flights this coming Monday. While they're denying today ... I found the Security Directive info ... so if you travel and print on site this may impact you.
TSA To Ban Printer Cartridges Next Week : SD 1554-10-05 - http://bit.ly/9zhzqB
This ban is for checked bags as well as carry on, including those who ship via certified cargo on passenger flights. |

| ->> where is the photographer/pilot with some angel investors to start Shutter-Air. Small private planes to ferry photographers around to regional airports or cross country. Make a frickin mint. Cost would be more than commercial air, but with the way things are going photographers are better off taking the train.... or pony express. |

->> You will be better off renting a work van with dark windows, or like McVay, no windows in the back at all. I think the terrorists are thinking of ways to make life in a free society more difficult. I have no idea what will be banded next, buy I am sure it wil be something this strange.
BTW...would a Jewish Reception Hall REALLY open a box from Yemen without calling the FBI first? |

Both the Jewish centers in Chicago were no longer at the addresses they were addressed to ... and as I had written in one of my posts, with a quote from a DoD terrorism analyst ... the bombs were never intended to make it to their target destination. One of the bombs had a time build it, wired to a mobile phone (SIM card removed) with less than 20 min on it. They would have blown on the ground. |

Well the TSA did introduce the "enhanced pat down" a few days ago, which allows them to use the front of their hands to pat passengers down ... now they can tell what type of underwear you're wearing. |

->> This is beyond stupid and every time TSA or other government agencies overreact like this, the terrorists win.
I could be reading the new restriction wrong but if the ban is on carts that hold 16 ounces VERY few cartridges will be banned. If you use the large ink carts found in Epson 98xx & 78xx printers as an example. Each cart holds 220 ml's of ink or right around 8 ounces. I can't think of what printers would have a 473ml cartridge (that you would be traveling with).
Most on-site printing is done by dye-subs so I doubt that this will impact event work much. What I AM wondering is how this will impact things like replacement units that are shipped on commercial flights. When my 4880 needs service my maintenance contract simply swaps the printer with a fresh refurb. Based on the stickers on the last unit I know that at some point the printer flew AA. Will this mean that my next printer will have to be shipped motor freight? |

->> Eric,
Th only references to toner of 16oz or larger was HP for their large laser printers. I am not up on printer cartridges, as I only use printers will very small cartridges, otherwise I outsource 95% of my printing needs.
I do know that Southwest Airlines will no longer be permitting the shipping of 'large printer cartridges' via its air cargo service. This goes for certified shippers and commercial shippers via third party logistics companies.
I have not been able to have any other airlines confirm their new restrictions ... primarily because this security directive is not intended to be announced publicly until Monday.
Pretty much every DHS and DoD person I have spoken with, from front line screeners to veteran terrorism analysts is scratching their heads as to why this security directive is even being created.
...oh and Chuck ... remember to smile and giggle when you're getting felt up ... I mean patted down ... that is how the TSA TSOs know they are doing a good job. |

->> How to avoid pat-down searches...
Act very, very excited to get one. Think dentist scene/Bill Murray from the movie "Little Shop of Horrors":
