PW MiniTT1+ ST-E2 + 5DmkII? and 580ex or exII?

I want to us the PW MiniTT1 to trigger a handheld or out of site flash. But I also need to have a ST-E@ for the focus assist. Think outdoors a night. Does anybody have experience doing this or know that it can be done? I have used the ST-E2 for years but have grown tired of the line of site restriction. That the PW literature lists a number of limitations in conjunction with the 5DmkII is of concern to me. That was question #1.
Question #2: I have both a 580exII and an original 580ex. I have noted that the TTL on the exII is better when paired in with the 5DmkII and the ST-E2. If I trigger with the PW MiniTT1, will the exII still be better than the ex or will the fact that PW is sending the signal make them the same?
Thanks for any help with this.

Both of the 580ex models have issues with interference when using the PW flex's. They come shipped with the sock shield now, but be aware that you can have range issues 1) without the sock and 2) with the sock if you are using external battery packs.
You can put the ST-E2 into the hot shoe of the mini and get what you want (plus ratio control) or you can put a 580 ex into the mini hotshoe and set it not to fire.
SS member Kevin Krows has done alot of testing with the mini/flex's and various flashes. He's very helpful and responsive - I'd recommend shooting him an email if he doesn't chime in. |
