| ->> I just moved to New Delhi, India from Charlotte, NC. I had to cancel my insurance in the US as they can't cover me while I live in India. I've been doing some research but am wondering if anyone knows of a good insurance company that deals with photographers living internationally - I'll be here at least 2 years. |

->> From my albeit very limited knowledge of the insurance industry: the actuaries (risk assessors) will calculate the chances of your gear becoming lost / stolen based on where it is located for the majority of your time.
Being that you're living in New Dheli, you'll need to find a local or national insurer that knows the risks associated with your place of residence and/or business.
Chances are you'll find a firm that is either a partner with or subsidiary of one of the major US insurance brokers.
Sorry I can't be of more help. |

->> Tim:
Do you still maintain a residence in the US - or can you fudge one - like using your parents address? If so, you are golden. Also, are you a member of NPPA? If not - it's a good time to join. The NPPA has a very good insurance program through Hays/Travellers which includes international coverage. I've been with them for years now - and have never had a problem with a claim that involved a loss outside of the US - and unfortunately, I have had more than one.
Best of luck!

| ->> Jock, anytime I see the words "fudge" and "insurance" together I see a train wreck approaching on the horizon...not the best advice to give. it's not like insurance companies will find any way to weasel out on a claim but "fudging" or falsifying information is a recipe for disaster. the nppa coverage is probably a good bet. |

| ->> OK Tim so to clarify - if you still have a viable residence in the US - as in an address that your mail is being sent while you are in India - then this won't be a problem. But be sure to follow Chuck's advice and don't fudge it! |

->> Insurance tends to be much the same in the UK, EU and the US and my UK based policy allows me to be overseas for up to 28 consecutive days before having to be at home for 7, after which I can be away for another 28 days. I would be amazed if anyone has a policy that varies much for this no matter where in the world they buy the policy.
Check the Indian market place first and see where that gets you. Registering a US address and then living elsewhere will give a good loss adjuster just the right amount of evidence they need to disallow any claim. |
