Why is insurance a good thing - the $8,000 ouch

->> I foresee several "Fun Pix" from Guy Rhodes in the near future of Mark Rebilas' recent misfortune. On the positive side - Mark now has a really high quality magnifying glass.

->> I read Mark's blog post this AM over coffee. Wow! It reminds me of what my camera looked like after a 1500 foot freefall onto solid rock! I also often mount remote cameras to unconventional objects (motorcycles, mountain bikes, skateborads, planes, cars, etc...) and in strange locations that are almost always potentially dangerous to the health & longevity of the equipment should something go awry. So far - good luck, careful planning, and meticulous rigging have prevented Mark's issue but like Mark said... eventually my number will be called and I'll lose some equipment.
I have insurance on all my gear though TCP which is one of the better respected brokers out there for us photogs. I'll admit that it has been awhile since I read through all the terms and fine print of my policy, but Mark's loss made me stop and ponder the role of negligence.
Do these insurance policies for photographers offer any wiggle room for the insurer to say - "Uh... you mounted a camera in an obviously dangerous location which we view as negligence so therefore we are not paying?"
It is just a thought, but not one that will keep me from mounting my camera to some crazy places as that is where many truly amazing pix come from. |

| ->> The surprising thing to me from that video is that he can fit all his gear in the back of a C6 Corvette. Was that a Z06? |

| ->> Probably a ZR1, Scott. What is doubly awesome is Mark must have neck muscles like a lineman from hanging that 600 with the camera strap. I'm also thinking Mark is like the Clint Eastwood of action photography. Serious BADASS! |

But your wallet is screaming in Canadian dollars, so really your pain is only about 83% of the pain we feel looking at this incident in American dollars :0) |

| ->> Almost had a $9000 ouch last night. Walking back through the parking lot after a football game I had my MIV and 300 2.8 on a mono over my shoulder. Bolt snapped! I was able to swing my right arm back and catch the 18" high flash bracket to save it. You just never know. |

| ->> Danny was it a Bogen that tightens down with the rubber circular things (not the one with that has the clamps) because I had the same thing happen to me last year carrying a 400 2.8 ... It was hell getting the screw out of the tripod mount on the lens. |
