| ->> Mr. Biever's photography of the sixties Packers was the reason I entered this profession and I am happy to have gotten to know him. A true gentleman and Wisconsin legend. My condolences to the Biever family. |

->> Sad news.
Mr. Biever's contribution to the history of the game is peerless.
I first met him on my only trip to Lambeau Field. After recalling seeing his work and John's displayed in the Photos of the Year gallery at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988 and thinking how cool it was for a father and son to be hanging together, he nodded, smiled and went about the task of the day. RIP. |

| ->> Vern inspired several generations of sports photographers and helped to shape the NFL experience to what it is today ... heck, he was shooting Super Bowls before they were considered "super" .... his work will continue to be admired by generations to come. Thanks for the memories Vern ... |

| ->> A true legend. And how did get his start: "offering to shoot the games for free in exchange for a sideline pass." |

| ->> Mr. Biever was one of the few non-players inducted into the Packer Hall of Fame. Bart Starr nominated him to be in the Packer HOF, and was a major proponent of his induction. As I understand it, he still made it to at least one game a year, shooting from a special spot in the stands. I was told that at one of these games a fan complained, and the usher told the fan, "Do you know who that is? You can move, not Mr. Biever!" |

| ->> Wow. Sad, sad news indeed. Vernon was a great gentleman as well as great photographer. I always enjoyed visiting Lambeau Field, if only to chat with him before the game. Sons Jim and John were cut from the same mold, both great photographers and even greater people. If you have yet to visit the Packers HOF museum, you owe it to yourself to go. It's really a tribute to Vernon. And the Packers honor Vernon in a very special way. RIP, Vernon. You will be missed by all. |

->> This is very sad news. The Bievers are the first family of football photography and they have lost the great man who started it all.

->> My heartfelt condolences go out to John and Jim today as I am greatly saddened by the loss of such a great photographer, role model, and good person.
I treasure my photo of Vern's of Bart Starr at the first Superbowl... If my house caught fire, I'd go for the kids first and then that print...
Happy Trails, Vern, and congratulations on your recent promotion...

->> As others have said, this is very sad news. I send my condolences to his family. I never had the chance to meet Vernon personally, but had the opportunity to use some of his work for a couple projects we worked on at The Sporting News. It was always a treasure looking through some of his archive.
SI has posted a gallery of some of his work: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/1010/vernon.bieve... |

->> I never met Mr. Biever in person but I did get the chance to talk to him on the phone at his travel agency on more than one occasion as I too worked on a few book projects for The Sporting News and needed to use some of his amazing images. He was so kind, unassuming and pleasant to talk to over the phone and his photography was so incredibly storytelling.
The world of Sports Photojournalism has lost a legend, we will forever be thankful for all the wonderful images he captured and the legacy he has left us with his own work and that of his sons who followed in his footsteps. My condolences to John and Jim. Rest in peace Mr. Biever, |

While I never had the pleasure of meeting him, it can truly be said that he left his mark on the world through his deeds and with the images he created. Wishing John, Jim and the rest of the Biever clan the best during this trying time. They will be in my thoughts and prayers. |
