Asking the most unpopular thing on photography forums...

->> So I'm currently an English teacher in Georgia (the country, not the state), and they want me to put together a sort of concert thingy with the students about English and American stuff. I'm not really sure how they define the word concert, but they have told me they want to do a sort of slideshow on American and English cities. I have some pictures of Chicago and Edinburgh, but unfortunately those are back in the U.S. safely archived.
So I wanted to ask if anyone in the SS community could help out with some pictures of any major U.S./English-speaking city they have before I go looking for low quality stuff on Google Images. They love to believe they're in Europe (Ajara, the region I'm in, is most certainly in Asia), so I think it's basically the U.K., Ireland, and the U.S. that they're interested in. I'm not really sure, no one speaks much English, and my Georgian is still coming along.
This of course isn't paid, but it's just to show to what will be mostly students, probably some parents, grandparents, and cousins, and second cousins, uncles, nephews, nieces, aunts, in-laws, some relatives that no one knows how they're related but are quite confident they are because they treat them like family, I think you get the point–students and family members (they have massive families).
If you could help, it would be greatly appreciated, please contact me off-list.
Thanks! |

| ->> Try flickr. It would actually probably have a better archive of images from those cities than any other source... |

| ->> You could probably look at the tourism bureau sites or Chamber of Commerce sites for many cities and find good, public domain images of famous sites. |

->> That's true George. Many of them have run contests in which they have required all rights from all entrants. They should have plenty of free images.

| ->> George is right...Philadelphia has a site http://www.visitphilly.com/ that (lat time I checked) supplied images from photographers they had commissioned (paid) to create for them. |

->> George,
Here's to the hope that there be fewer of the ones I referred to and more of those that you did.

->> I appreciate hearing good news like this from George and Delane, and wonder if they are extraordinary exceptions to the rule, as Mark suggests. For example, here is a recent
a COC pitch: If you've visited California's picturesque Bodega Bay, where Hitchcock's "The Birds" was filmed, the Chamber of COMMERCE (my emphasis supplied) wants your pictures, free, so so they can publish them. It's a contest but you don't win anything, and you don't get paid. But: you WILL get A PHOTO CREDIT! Whether you comment or enter or not, be sure to consider giving a picture to Daniel our OP, Here's the link to the info -- photos due Oct 4. http://bit.ly/9ZD108 |
