->> I found this to be a pretty interesting read about Paul C. Buff and his business.
http://www.soundadviceblog.com/digital-photography-tips/a-look-inside-paul-.../
My first studio flash (purchased used in 1997) was a White LIghtning Ultra 1200 that I still use to this day. Sure, I prefer my Elinchrom as 5x the cost but the White Lightning is one helluva value. We still have a ton of Ultra Zap 1600's that we used to light up high school gyms all over Philadelphia and South Jersey.
My favorite quote..."...we currently have about 65% of the US market for studio flash."
Well done Paul Buff!!! |

->> Good find Delane, thanks for sharing. I like the quote:
"Paul was a regular poster on the dpreview.com message boards until he was recently banned by Phil Askey, former owner of the site, which was recently sold to amazon.com."
I'm looking forward to the interview with Luap. |

| ->> The classic White Lightnings are the 5000 and 10000. They look like 2-pound coffee cans. I have units I bought in the late 1980s, and I use some regularly in the studio. I imagine PCB would still fix them if I asked (although the warranty may be up). Great company!! |

Hey Delane, we agree on something this week. Hope all is well in crab land. Are you entering anything in SPAA this year? |

->> Dave-I have an old 5000 and 10,000 too. I bought them in the 80's after member Chet Gordon showed me his pair.
I needed a part for one, and I called them and they had it at my door the next day. I now also have 2 AB 800's and one 1600, and I use these when I need to take the subway and the Dynalites are just too big and heavy. I can't say enough about them.
I also have the Vagabound and my husband and I used it for a CD cover shoot using 3 Dynalites and then plugged in the laptop. I am really looking forward to their new, smaller version to come out.
Great company with terrific customer service |

| ->> They give you a good bang for your buck. I wish their stands were a little better equipped to handle the rigors of shooting day in and day out, but their lights are top notch. |

| ->> The gear is inarguably good and loved by many. And this story reads like an epic love poem to the company and its products, But there's a little more to the story surrounding Mr. Buff's "art deco masterpiece" that might be familiar to people who live in and around Nashville and nearby Berry Hill, of particular interest given the tragic flooding last year. Speaking with some locals might have fleshed out the story a bit more completely... |
