->> I rose from staff photographer to Editor-In-Chief of my Alum's newspaper, The Battalion, www.thebatt.com . When I was there (mid-90s) the web was still pretty new, but we managed an online presence back then, including everything that was in our print edition.
I don't know how other student papers were run, but The Batt was run independent of the university, by the students. We were in control of all it's content and had a daily circ. of 25,000.

->> My Alma Mater Columbia College of Chicago (Class of 1996) a small liberal arts school located downtown in the Loop near Depaul and Roosevelt has a very solid college paper. Click on the PDF to check out the flip book style pages and look at the graphics and photos these kids are doing. Really impressive. I wish the paper look like this when I was there.

->> While I am not a college student, nor ever worked at this paper ... I have worked closely with a number of fine men and women who did ... The Daily Collegian is run as much like a daily as it can be and the student staff are held to a real world "what have you done for me lately" standard ... almost all who survive their time at the Collegian can hit the ground running after graduation ...
