->> Hi-
Is there a web form somewhere I need to fill out to apply for an NPS loaner? I have looked all over the nikonpro.com site and can't see anything. I have also sent an email with the pertinent info (repair job # and whatnot) to nps@nikon.net and (surprise, surprise...) haven't heard back from anyone.
Yes, I am a current NPS member.
If anyone knows the 'secret knock' please let me know here or email me through my member page.
Thanks. |

->> E-mail at:
NPS@nikon.net with your request.
I Assume that you are an NPS member, right??
Include:
1- What you want to borrow.
2- The day you need your gear.
3- NPS Number.
4-Full Address and Telephone Number.
5-UPS or FEDEX Numbers for shipping Charges.
If there is a repair number related to this request, please include it too (If you are borrowing gear because your gear is in shop being repaired)
You will get a response with your tracking number the day they ship your gear...
That has been my experience with NPS in the past. |

| ->> Yamil has it all right. Also as a side note they will not ship to a hotel/conference center only a personal/business residence. I needed a lens as one of mine went on repair and NPS would not ship to the hotel I was staying/working at. |

->> LOL.....
Yamil gave it up straight NPS@nikon.net response times will vary. I've had replies in as little as 30 minutes and sometimes it took a few days. There's no secret handshake (or if there is I haven't been taught it) to getting a loaner. If they have the gear they'll send it out if not then well.... you get the idea.
When did you send your request? |

->> I sent my request on Sept. 20.
The last time I successfully requested and received a loaner from NPS was 1994. |

->> Hey, I know very well that trying to get a long lens from NPS during the World Series is next to Impossible, trust me, I know!!
But I've been fairly lucky in other occasions.
Especially getting loaners extended when UPS manages to Mangle my incoming repairs ;)
Matt, you sent your request on Sept 20th, send another one, just in case!! When do you need the gear by??

->> Nipping this one in the bud.... I am an NPS member like anyone else. I am not a liaison for NPS. Delane was KIDDING.
If you have a request or need or question nps@nikon.net is your best route. The team at NPS is TINY considering the number of members that they serve.
At least I wasn't called de fatso. |

| ->> Woo Hoo! I never did get a loaner, but it doesn't matter any more. Much to my great surprise and delight I got my gear back from repair today. I shipped it on 9/22/10 and it's back in my hands on 9/28/10--two lenses and a D3s. Fastest turnaround time I have ever experienced. This was the first time I sent gear to California and not Melville. Coincidence...? |

->> Mat, at least UPS didn't crush your gear!! Then again, your gear didn't go through the Farmingdale, NY Meat Grinder!!
I'm going to start sending my gear to CA too!! Or if it's cheaper, I'll fly to CA and drop it off personally!!

->> How long do you get to use the loaned gear?
I understand that some still have gear for over a year that was loaned out to them to try out. Some even longer. How does that work? I can't get anyone to return a call or email about getting in on some of this extended tryout gear. I would like to get a loaner 600mm for use for a year. |

| ->> Louis, loaners are first come first serve, and with a 600mm, that would be tough as they are still fulfilling orders. When I asked about getting a D3s for testing they told me there was a 2-3 month wait as they were still struggling to fill orders, and its already been 6 and nothing yet. Also normally they only do loaners for items in repair and generally for the life of the repair until its back in your hands, but they do sometimes do loaners if you are doing a high profile event. At least that is what I have seen in my time as an NPS member. |

->> Luis I have no clue how (or why) an evaluation loan would be made for a year. I've had evaluation loans in the past and they tend to run 2 weeks. I've borrowed a 400 and the 200-400 and when the D3 came out Nikon reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in evaluating one for a few weeks. You could have knocked me over with a sensor brush, I was so shocked to get the call.
Ummmm..... does a bear shhhh.... HELLZ yes I said.
The rep coordinated the loaner so that I would have it during a tournament so that I could really test it out. I had an NPS D3 this summer for a month.... Then again they had mine for a month too between the original repair - UPS ABUSE - re-repair. Even got my hands on a D3s for 2 weeks (warehouse error) and was allowed to keep it for the 2 weeks and try it out.
For special events I have been told to make my request well in advance so that the item can be reserved without bumping someone else out of line. 2 out of the 3 requests were covered.
In each case I just emailed my request in and waited. Not every request got a positive reply. I waited a year for the 200-400 to be free. And don't waste your time or theirs asking for gear when a major event is going on. Super Bowl, Olympic Games, World Series, etc.... Although after something like the Olympics excess gear gets sold off as it comes back into the pool and is cleaned and checked. So if you are a member and looking for a deal THAT'S the time to see what they may be selling off..... |
