->> I just purchased a used Sunpak 622 flash system along with a Quntam Turbo Battery Pack. I can not seem to get the flash unit to work and I have tested the battery with another flash and it works fine. I can get the flash to test fire once or twice and then it just quits. Any help would be great appreciated.

->> Is this a used potato masher or a new one? I'm guessing it's used and you bought a bad flash.

->> I used to have one of those.... Back in 1986....
They worked great, but.... It's almost 25 years old...... You might have a bad one there..

->> The flash works with the battery pack that came with the unit and it will work with the Quantum but it seems the problem is that the flash does not support ETTL which is what the new digital cameras us so I am stuck with a flash that I can not use. Looks like it will be going on ebay to see if I can recoupe some of my investment. I bought it local and the third party I purchased from has already spent the money I gave him and he wants to take 2-3 months to give me back anything for giving him the flash back. Oh well, whatcha going do about that.

->> Billy, like I said, this flash is almost 25 years old!! There was no ETTL back then, heck, this flash wasn't even TTL!! It was automatic!! With the little Sensor that went on the Hot Shoe!! This is an ancient Machine!! It works, but... Not as good as something like the SB900!!

->> This would be a super flash for a Strobist rig especially if you need a lot of power from one light. You don't need ETTL for a Strobist kit. What did you pay for it? You might list it here someone else may make wonderful pictures with it if you can't find a way to make it fit your style. This would be a great off-camera strobe for an assistant to aim during a wedding for photographing the aisle photos prior to the ceremony.

->> One feature I loved about this flash is that they made interchangeable heads for it!! I owned a flash head that was completely diffused!! Light went everywhere and very soft!! Wonderful for events and weddings!! I shot my own wedding (some Images) with a Hassy and this flash!!

->> I still have a 622 in my location bag with a quantum AND an AC cable. The AC recycle is SLOW but it is a great unit and very versatile. I had 2 Nikon ttl modules for my ext-11 cable too.
They made a bare bulb head, a (manual) zoom head, an IR head and all kinds of gadgets for it. |
