->> I was contacted by a goalkeeper from one of the soccerteams I shoot the most.
He signed a contract earlier this year and there was a photographer present. That photographer promissed him the pictures, but hasn't delivered them yet. So the goalie send me an email to remind me. I replied he was mistaking me with another photographer and I helped him with the name of the right guy.
I got a reply whre he told he would like to se more pictures of himself on my site. I replied he had to lay games (little joke, he is the third goalie so there is change of zero to none for that)
But I know he plays games in other teams to keep his shape and I said that there is always a possibility yo take pictures of him during one of these games.
Stupid as I am, I then clicked send.
Why studpid? Because I always wanted to doe something with a sporter out-side-of-the-box and this was my change to do that.
But it's not to late I think. When I shoot some pictures of him during a game, I'm sure he's happy and he probably will help me out to shoot some portraits.
Now is the hardest thing, the idea.
I can put him in his teamsuit on marketsquare in the place where he was born and light it cool. Crowded square and only expose him so that the accent is on him. But that's quite standard, not?
So I'm playing with some ideas. I can let him do other sports, like chess. Would be fun with those thick gloves. Or some other sport.
But doe you have any nice ideas or know some websites to be inspired? |

->> It's not to late at all, but you may need to sweet talk him a little to get on his good side.
Just open up your email with something like "Actually, I think I know one way to get some photos of you on my site, would you be interested in....."
Make sure you mention the abstract set up. A lot of times the subject will be flattered you put so much thought in to "them" that they'll be more likely to agree to work with you. Go the extra mile and draft up a few sketches of what you have in mind and let them see. |

->> You read my thoughts Thomas, it was what I had planned: to approach him with an interesting idea and flatter him.
But the problem is that I don't have a lot in mind and I'm looking for inspiring pictures.
Saw some pictures of a goalie on top of the goal some time ago, nice photo's, but I'm looking more fore pictures of athletes that are not in their own element. |
