->> I use what used to be called function 5 where you switch the control dials, so my back dial where your thumb goes is now shutter speed, so you can lock it down. It's a great way to shoot hoops on strobes because you never knock it off the sync speed by accident...

Last, in football, you can actually change the exposure during a play much easier and you leave the lens wide open the whole time... I'm always shooting wide open on every lens--only my shutter speed changes...

->> You could go into the menu functions and set the minimum/max exposure setting to the shutter speed you want.
