| ->> Now we just need a 24mm f/1.8 or f/2 and we'd be golden. Just something more affordable and compact than that outrageously expensive behemoth 24mm f/1.4. C'mon, Nikon, hear me... |

->> Certainly did take them long enough to fill that hole in the line-up. When I shot Canon the 35mm f1.4 was a favorite and it was sort of weird Nikon had no modern fast primes with AF-S motors or anything.
Ironically looking back, even though I had the 35 1.4, 85 1.2 and the 135 f2, and as great as they all were, 95% of the time it was a 24-70 or 70-200 zoom on the camera. Given the prices of the current Nikon glass, the economy, and the use I'd realistically get out of them makes me not quite so "I've got to have that" the way I used to be when I younger and richer.
Certainly great to see choices for the consumer though. |

| ->> For me this announcement comes at an odd time as I have recently taken a job that supplies me with Canon equipment. I am still a Nikon shooter for my own personal equipment and I will be grabbing one of the 35 f1.4's and also the new 85 f1.4. I am on the fence about the 24 as that is not a focal length that I use very often. I am glad that Nikon has finally come around and introduced one of these. |

| ->> I am gonna be in line for that D7000, especially at the (Jarvis-mentioned) $1000 price point. That is a hell of a deal! |

| ->> I'm not normally the type to go ape over new equipment, but the announced D7000 looks interesting based on a price point only. If the image quality and high ISO performance lives up to pre release hype, then it is probably good news down the road. Digital bodies seem to have a short lifespan technology-wise, so being able to purchase five D7000s for the price of a D3 is pretty cool. I make my living full time from photography and with the downturn in our profession and economy, it's making it very hard to afford to upgrade as technology improves. With the price point they are talking about, I might be able to do something when the time comes. Amazing how the people that really use all this expensive technology have become the least able to afford it. |

->> The new CoolPix 7000 looks it might be a winner.
HD video capabilities AND a mic jack so you can use an external stereo mic. |

->> I had an opportunity to spend 'one-on-one' time with both the P7000 and the D7000 today. Very cool cameras.
The D7000 allows nearly full manual control for video; the user can select the shutter & ISO, but the camera picks the aperture (which can be worked-around using lenses with an aperture ring). Auto focus while shooting video works well too. Maximum clip length at 1080p/24fps is 10 minutes.
The P7000 HD video shoots 720p @24fps and is a much sleeker package than the canon G-Series. It's going to get a lot of use for b-roll video as a vehicle interior-type camera on a project I'm starting shortly.
Expected availability is near the end of October for both. |
