Lensbaby question

->> I want to buy a lensbaby to use for some time lapse videos and had a quick question. I know they have the control freak lens to lock in the position of the lensbaby, but do the cheaper two models stay in the position you put them after you let go, or do they require hand holding? Obviously, I couldn't use it for time lapse if the lens bent back into another position after I composed the shot.

->> Lens Babies I & II do not lock into position and will will not hold a focus without the shooter's manual effort. The version III has the positioning pins to hold focus.

->> The Control Freak and the Composer lock into place. The Muse does not.

->> Wes, if you're looking at the used market, and the original lineup, the LBO and LB2.0 do not. The Lensbaby 3G does.
Of the current lineup, the Control Freak which is an optic-swappable update of the 3G, and the Composer--built on a ball joint do lock into place, but the Muse does not.
Here's an 18hr TL test I made with the Lensbaby Composer with the double-glass optic and a snowflake aperture during a snowstorm this past winter...

And here's the Composer with the Fisheye swapper by my brother over in Clifden Ireland:

->> Thanks for the info everyone. Looks like the Composer is closer to the budget I've got. Surely I can find a good used one. Anyone tired of theirs? :)

->> the Composer is really well suited for video and stills. Here is a little fun I had on a mission trip in Haiti last month. The only thing I brought down there this time was a 5D MII and the composer. it was a gas!!!!

->> I'd endorse the Composer as well. I used it for my time lapse video experiment last year.

I picked up the wide angle and "tele" attachments, but hardly used them since the image quality suffered noticeably. |
